On the article Speak Out: SC Christian School Test Asks, 'Do You Believe in Dinosaurs?'
Jerry Stevens

ReplySome Christians believe in evolution, some don't. There is nothing in Catholicism that precludes belief in evolution or any other scientific theory. I went to Catholic schools in the 60's and was taught evolution by nuns. Nothing has changed since then.
Still, I was taught not to criticize the religion of others and I stay far away from these kinds of conversations.

ReplyBanning plastic without knowing what you will be moving toward is folly. How about some economic incentive to recycle those plastic bags?

On the article Speak Out: Should Dairy Industry Be Allowed to Add Artificial Sweeteners to Milk Without Telling Consumers?
Jerry Stevens
2:47 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2013
ReplyThe question is so loaded that only one answer is likely. Milk "manufacturers" (They manufacture that stuff?) putting artificial sweeteners into our food without disclosure at the behest of lobbyists? It's like asking people if they are for or against air pollution.
I see no upside to permitting it but the belief that Aspartame, Sucralose and Saccharin are all unsafe despite exhaustive FDA testing is so persistent one wonders why they bother testing at all. If you don't believe the FDA in this matter why believe any of its pronouncements?
Said the FDA, first in 2007: "Considering results from the large number of studies on aspartame's safety, including five previously conducted negative chronic carcinogenicity studies, a recently reported large epidemiology study with negative associations between the use of aspartame and the occurrence of tumors, and negative findings from a series of three transgenic mouse assays, FDA finds no reason to alter its previous conclusion that aspartame is safe as a general purpose sweetener in food."

ReplyOkay, call it an "inland port" if you want but then don't lecture others about trying to change the meaning of words.

ReplyI give her a serious shot at winning. You can try to make politics to be all about substance but the cool factor of being the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert shouldn't be underestimated.

ReplyI'm unlikely to voter for Haley again but it has nothing to do with this gossip. I doubt it will hurt her chances and might even help her. People sympathize with people subjected to unsubstantiated gossip and rumor.
