Winking Lizard Welcomes First Customers at Washington Square

Have you stopped in to the new North Canton restaurant that opened this week? Tell us how it was!

The new Winking Lizard at Washington Square welcomed its first customers this week when it opened its doors to the public for the first time. North Canton diners — and drinkers — have waited seven long months since North Canton Patch announced the restaurant would make its way to the city. The Winking Lizard Tavern posted a few photos on its Facebook page this week. Have you taken any inside the restaurant? Feel free to add them to this update, and tell us in the comments section how your visit was! And don't forget, the Winking Lizard soon will be joined by B.A.M. Healthy Cuisine, which is relocating from North Main Street in North Canton.

Third Tenant in New Washington Square Building Announced

McKinley Development announced the third tenant to occupy a space in the new Washington Square building with B.A.M. Healthy Cuisine and the Winking Lizard.

The third tenant in the new Washington Square building didn't have to travel far to get to its new home. In fact, the new tenant is just a stone's throw away from its current location. Verizon Wireless will move in this year, leaving an empty space where it now resides in the Washington Square plaza. Beth Borda, spokeswoman for McKinley Development, said the move will help make the cellphone provider more visible to customers. "The buildings that are closer to the road are typically filled with tenants (whose customers) a lot of the times aren't necessarily planning on going to the cellular store, but they see it there," she said. "They just believe that, because of the increased exposure, that's where they want to be." According to the …

Hey, Catherine! I've only heard some rumblings in the community about Panera coming, but nothing official. From what McKinley Development is saying, it will be a while before someone commits to that fourth space. I'm eager to see who it will be, though!   more ›

Washington Square Parking Lot Gets Thumbs-Up from Planning Commission

The lot will accommodate employees and diners at the new Winking Lizard restaurant, slated to open in the first quarter of 2013

The North Canton Planning Commission gave the OK on a parking lot that would accommodate employees and diners at the new Winking Lizard restaurant, being built at Washington Square by Handel's ice cream. Planning Commission Chairman Dennis Flechtner said the lot will go in the same spot where a Giant Eagle GetGo gas station was proposed and eventually shot down by the commission in September of 2011. The commission had voted 3-2 to not allow Giant Eagle to build the GetGo station there. The vote came after hearing opinions from several residents from Wynstone Circle. Many said having the gas station so close to a residential area would decrease property values, and headlights would shine into their homes. But, Flechtner said he heard no …

New Parking Lot in Washington Square? Planning Commission Could Give OK Tonight

The North Canton Planning Commission will discuss the addition at its meeting in Council Chambers tonight

The North Canton Planning Commission tonight will talk about the addition of a parking lot to the Washington Square area — the same spot that was proposed as a GetGo gas station site in July 2011. The thought of a GetGo gas station didn't sit well with Washington Square residents as dozens attended the public meetings and voiced their opinions against it. Planning Commission Chairman Dennis Flechtner said there's no telling if the proposed parking lot will be received with similar opposition from residents. "I'll tell you when I get there," Flechtner said. "I have no idea." The commission voted 3-2 in September to not allow Giant Eagle to build the GetGo station at Washington Square. The vote came after hearing residents' opinions, such as…

Those Winking Lizard fans who live in North Canton will have to drive to the Canton location for their wings and craft beer no longer. The city is slated to get its own Winking Lizard restaurant at Washington Square on the west side of Handel's, and progress at the site already is underway, said Economic Development Director Eric Bowles. Work crews can be seen prepping the area, where the ground is plowed and fenced off. Bowles was unsure this week about the restaurant's number of employees, estimated payroll and when it is slated to open. Check back with North Canton Patch as we get more information about the arrival of the Winking Lizard restaurant to North Canton.
