Community Bands Together to Support Boy With Rare Cancer: Pic of the Day

The North Canton Jaycees and JAX young professionals hosted a guest bartending event at the Barrel Room to benefit Tucker Gromosiak, a 7-year-old Hudson boy with a rare form of muscular cancer

North Canton Jaycees and JAX young professionals raised at least $4,000 Tuesday night to help a 7-year-old Hudson boy with a rare form of cancer. The two groups joined up to host a guest bartending night at the Barrel Room and support Tucker Gromosiak, who is battling Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Prostate (Rhabdo for short). The $4,000 does not include tips from that night, which all went to the cause. Couldn't make it to the event but still want to help out? Visit any First Merit Bank to donate to the Tucker Gromosiak Benevolent Fund.

Tucker Gromosiak has a support group miles long. The 7-year-old Hudson boy is being cheered on by folks from Hudson down to North Canton as he battles a rare form of muscular cancer.  The North Canton Jaycees and JAX young professionals have joined forces to support Tucker in his fight against Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Prostate (Rhabdo for short). Mitt Romney Crashes Through North Canton Bar Window ... Well, According to The Onion

North Canton got a shoutout today from the farcical online newspaper, The Onion

North Canton got a shoutout today from the farcical online newspaper, The Onion. Yup — little ol' us.  According to The Onion, presidential candidate Mitt Romney was running through Ohio frantically waving and smiling. And that's the whole story, folks. Well, that's about it until Romney dove through a North Canton bar window and "scrambled to his feet, wolfed down a large plate of pancakes, waved to restaurant patrons for five seconds, furiously stammered out a few words about the economy, stumbled out through the front door, and sprinted in the direction of Youngstown." No, we're not kidding. But The Onion is. North Canton Patch sends its thanks to Twitter follower Jeff Rhodes (@JR_65M) for the heads up about the North Canton name-drop …

I hope all of you who made the above comments regarding Gov. Mitt Romney and his religion can sleep at night. No, I am not a Mormon but a respectful Christian. No one seemed to mind when Obama sat in Jeramiah Wrights Church for 20 years and listened to him saying "God Damn America"! I happen to love our country and want to keep it safe, economically sound (balanced budget which Obama has not done…   more ›

Thoughts From The Editor

Cheers! Community Members Bartend for Betterment: Pic of the Day

Patch Editor Morgan Day and TJ Murphy, immediate need recipient through the Foundation for Community Betterment, served up some drinks inside the Barrel Room Monday to raise money for the philanthropic organization

I think it was clear after Monday night: TJ Murphy and I will stick to our day jobs. With shaky hands and faulty memories (what did you order again?), we served up drinks that night inside the Barrel Room Wine & Beer Bar to raise money for the Canton Chapter of the Foundation for Community Betterment.  All tips and 10 percent of sales will benefit the recipients for this year's fifth annual Rocktoberfest event, which takes place at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001 Market Ave. N., Canton. Tickets are $45 a person, $80 for a couple and $50 at the door. You can get tickets through any Betterment member or through the group's website. In all, I had a wonderful time Monday night giving back to a great community …

Women Host Fundraiser to Fit Impoverished Adults With Hearing Aids

Carrie Spangler and Denise Testa, both audiologists, will host a fundraiser from 6:30 p.m.-10 p.m. Saturday at the Barrel Room. They're raising money for a trip to Beverly, KY, to fit adults with hearing aids.

Carrie Spangler and Denise Testa are on their way to Beverly, KY, on a service mission to fit poverty-stricken adults with hearing aids. But first, the two local audiologists need to raise the money for their service project. They'll host a fundraiser from 6:30-10 Saturday night at the Barrel Room, with all donations going to the project. The women are attending Red Bird Mission July 23-28 with Hear the World Foundation, and for every $250 they raise, one person can be fitted with a hearing aid. "We went two years ago and it was quite a life-changing, amazing experience for both of us, and we wanted to go again and make a difference that way," Spangler said. Then, the women raised $6,400 and fit 21 adults with hearing aids. Spangler has a …
