Shimek is the first in the North Canton City School District to be awarded "Educator of the Month" this year
The North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce, Westfield Bank and Starbucks are saluting one teacher from each North Canton City School District each month this school year, and first in line is Gerilyn Shimek. Shimek is a first grade teacher at Clearmount Elementary School, and she's been with the district for 14 years. Below, Shimek shares what she loves most about teaching, who she finds inspiration in and what qualities make a good educator. North Canton City School District welcomes teachers Ryan and Tynae Kienzle, two track fanatics who found love on the field at Malone University
Ryan and Tynae Kienzle are feeling pretty lucky right about now. The two just got married at Malone University (where they met) and honeymooned at the nearby Gervasi Vineyard. Not only that, they both landed jobs in the North Canton City School District this year. Ryan will teach eighth grade science at North Canton Middle School, while Tynae fills in for a middle school teacher on maternity leave and is the assistant coach for the Hoover High School girls cross country team. Actually, both are avid runners, having participated in cross country at Malone University. This year, Ryan made the Olympic tryouts, and Tynae finished in the top four in the Canton Marathon while Ryan finished first in the half marathon. They said they're excited to…

Millions of people look at or listen to some form of art throughout each and every day. Creative artworks can be found all around us. One North Canton art teacher finds motivation for her artwork and teaching from her students and from her daughter.
Janet Baran teaches art at the Hoover High School using all kinds of mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and mixed media. Her daughter, Rachel Baran, also is an artist, using photography and Adobe Photoshop computer software to create her own series of award-winning photographs.
