Stark State College will host a memorial art auction to feature and sell 40-plus works created by the late Bette Elliott.
The late Bette Elliott, a critically-acclaimed and award-winning artist, will be remembered this month at Stark State College when more than 40 of her realist artworks are auctioned off to the public. The former North Cantonite's paintings have been displayed throughout the country and around the world. The May 4 event aims to teach everyone from the techy to the not-so-techy how to manage their own websites through WordPress.
Tickets go on sale on April Fool's Day for the camp that doesn't involve camping — no joke! Local graphic designer Joe Rozsa's version of camping consists of all-day workshops to learn all things WordPress. The WordPress camp, aptly titled WordCamp North Canton, takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4 at Stark State College. The goal is to teach about 200 people — young, old, techy and no-so-techy — how to navigate WordPress and manage their own free WordPress websites. Rozsa, creative director at TrailerTrash Design, spends much of his professional time working with WordPress and says it's not as difficult to manage a site as it might seem; some people just need a little direction. The program, which promotes sustainable business practices, was such a hit in 2012 that it will expand outside of North Canton this year
In the past year, the North Canton Medical Foundation became serious about sustainability. Just how serious? The medical campus at 6046 Whipple Ave. has worked to get all its employees on board with recycling and using more energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning. And, for its efforts, it's even earned a $2,000 scholarship through North Canton’s Green Business Roundtable program. "Communicating with employees is the top thing on our agenda," said Bob Nappi, director of human resources and facilities at the North Canton Medical Foundation. "We've got to get their attention and make sure we're not just paying lip service." The foundation is one of several businesses that takes part in the Green Business Roundtable, now in its second …
