Serial Bank Robber Sentenced for Holdups in North Canton and Northeast Ohio

Benjamin G. Gates, 33, of Canton, was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison after appearing for a hearing in the federal courthouse Monday

A Canton man who robbed eight banks across Northeast Ohio — from North Canton to Cuyahoga Falls and Youngstown — was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison Monday. Benjamin G. Gates, 33, had been indicted in September and then in November pleaded guilty to eight counts of bank robbery in U.S. District Court Northern District of Ohio. “This sentence should send a clear message to those who would think about robbing a bank,” U.S. Attorney Steven M. Serial Bank Robber Pleads Guilty to Holdups in North Canton, Cuyahoga Falls

Suspected serial bank robber Benjamin G. Gates — who police pegged as robbing banks in North Canton and Cuyahoga Falls — pleaded guilty Tuesday to eight counts of bank robbery. The 33-year-old Canton man was suspected of robbing the U.S. Bank, located inside the Acme Fresh Market  at 2630 Bailey Rd. in Cuyahoga Falls, on Aug. 16; and the Huntington Bank, located inside the Giant Eagle at Washington Square in North Canton, on Aug. 3. Gates entered his plea Tuesday in the U.S. District Court Northern District of Ohio in Cleveland, according to Vindy.com. Police had suspected him of robbing the following Ohio banks:  Vindy.com also reported Gates robbed two banks in Pittsburgh and Erie, Pa., and netted $24,528 in stolen cash. His sentencing …

Suspected Serial Bank Robber Indicted for 6 Northeast Ohio Holdups

A grand jury in Cleveland returned an indictment charging Benjamin G. Gates, 33, of Canton, with six counts of bank robbery. Those include heists in Cuyahoga Falls and North Canton.

Suspected serial bank robber Benjamin Gates may not see the light of day anytime soon.  On Tuesday, a Cleveland Grand Jury handed down an indictment charging Gates, 33, of Canton, with six counts of felony bank robbery, according to Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. Following a six-week crime spree, Gates was arrested last month in Canton by members of the Safe Streets Task Force comprised of FBI agents, officers from the Canton and Alliance Police Department, and the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. His capture was due, in large part, to a witness who spotted him fleeing a U.S. Bank in Cuyahoga Falls on Aug. 16. “This case reflects the valued partnership between the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force …
