GALLERY: North Canton Preps for Visit From Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan

Republican supporters flocked to North Canton Memorial Stadium Thursday evening to paint signs for today's big campaign rally

Today, North Canton gets a chance to show off in a big way. It will host thousands of people when presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan come to town for their campaign rally, and city officials and residents are making sure the city is prepped and polished for the limelight. North Canton Mayor David Held said workers have been busy prepping the city for the event. "We wanted to make sure all the streets are clean, and a great segment of Main Street is paved, so it's a little smoother for the motorcade," Held said. "We're going to have thousands of people coming into the city for this event alone, and that in itself is economic development." President Obama did acknowledge the terrorist attack in Benghazi - that very day in the Rose Garden. Don't take my word for it - see the video for yourself. If he 'hasn't done anything to fix the economy in 4 years', how about the Republican/Tea Party-dominated House that has stonewalled him every step of the way since day 1? They wouldn't even pass a routine transportation/infrastructure bill or…   more ›

Hoover High Student Section 'Blacks Out' for Senior Night: Pic of the Day

A Patch viewer submitted this stellar photo of Hoover High students showing their school spirit at the Hoover vs. GlenOak game Friday night

Eye black. Body paint. Viking horns. Perfect ingredients for a North Canton Patch "pic of the day," wouldn't you say?  Patch viewer Julie Mathie-Cross added this photo to our Hoover High vs. GlenOak High School football gallery this weekend, and we were eager to share the great shot.  The students "blacked out" for the game, which also happened to be senior night. And also happened to end in a Hoover High Viking win. (Hoover won 33-20.) It's not too late to submit your game photos, either. Just click here to get started.

The North Canton School Board discussed paying for its installation Wednesday evening. The board looked at the graphics board installation as well as the installation of a new speaker for the stadium that evening. They approved both. He and his family will be called to the field for a small dedication ceremony. "He's an icon here," said North Canton resident Randy Santangelo. "He's a legend and the field is beautiful." Afterward, Santangelo said a private party will be held at the Fairways of North Canton, where several of his past players will speak.
