In the past year, the North Canton Medical Foundation became serious about sustainability. Just how serious? The medical campus at 6046 Whipple Ave. has worked to get all its employees on board with recycling and using more energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning. And, for its efforts, it's even earned a $2,000 scholarship through North Canton’s Green Business Roundtable program. "Communicating with employees is the top thing on our agenda," said Bob Nappi, director of human resources and facilities at the North Canton Medical Foundation. The North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce treated its members to dinner, drinks and raffle prizes inside North Canton Medical Foundation Thursday night
North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce members got a chance to mingle in their holiday best at their annual holiday party Thursday evening. About 75 members gathered inside North Canton Medical Foundation for dinner, drinks and the chance to win raffle prizes and the 50/50 drawing, which benefited the Holiday Paws Pantry. Research shows good nutrition and exercise can help prevent breast cancer. Here are some resources around North Canton to help you stay healthy.
You might be able to find help fighting breast cancer and other types of cancers at your local grocery store and fitness centers, according to the research findings of Dr. Marian Neuhouser, Ph.D, RD. Dr. Neuhouser is a nutritional epidemiologist with a background in nutritional sciences. She is an investigator at Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Her research is focused on lifestyle factors such as nutrition and physical activity. Some factors may prevent breast and prostate cancer and improve survivorship in those diagnosed with cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, more than 200,000 American women are diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 American women will die …

The North Canton Medical Foundation and Ermanno's Legendary Pizza will both receive a $2,000 Green Business Roundtable Scholarship, announced this week by the North Canton Chamber of Commerce and the Stark State College Sustainability Task Force. Through the scholarship, Kimberly W. Babcock, a LEED AP and certified green business consultant with Inspiring Spaces Sustainable Design & Consulting, will work with each business to complete a sustainability audit and sustainability plan. The second annual Melanoma Awareness Day at the North Canton Medical Foundation aims to help people ditch their unhealthy tanning habits in favor of safer alternatives. "The big push for us is how to tell people and to show people that there are other ways to get a tan or a healthy glow without putting yourself in a tanning bed and receiving lots of extra sun exposure that really could be a major cause of melanoma," said Julie Elkins in the foundation's marketing and community relations office. The free event touts the use of makeup, spray-tanning and lotions to get a healthy summer glow instead of heading to a tanning bed. The North Canton Special Olympics event is coming up, along with a Melanoma Awareness Day this weekend
