Councilman Mark Cerreta said the opinions of community members — including Patch readers — helped dictate their design
North Canton's choice for the new entryway signs is now set in stone. (Erm, sorry for that horrible pun ...) Councilman-at-large Mark Cerreta said he and others on his team took into account the opinions of community members he spoke to at different organizations' meetings, readers of Patch and other media outlets as well as those who stopped by the Master Plan table at the Main Street Festival. And the end result? It's an amalgamation of several things the public liked about three different entryway sign options — the brick column that represents manufacturing and industry, the North Canton "NC" logo that shows community pride and the base of stone, which, combined with the brick, gives streetscape workers more flexibility in the future…

When presented with three city entryway sign options, our viewers voted for the brick pillars in overwhelming numbers
When asked "which entryway sign suits our city," North Canton Patch viewers spoke loud and clear in a Patch poll. Sixty-eight percent of those who voted in the poll chose the all-brick option with a North Canton "NC" logo and embellished top. Twenty-six percent chose a mix of brick and stone, while just five percent chose the all-stone fixture. Councilman Mark Cerreta had presented the three options at a North Canton City Council meeting June 18 told us this week that he was pleased with the response he saw on North Canton Patch. But there's still much more opinion-gathering to be done before the city settles on an entryway sign, he said. And more options could still be thrown into the mix. For instance, a few Patch viewers suggested a …

Councilman Mark Cerreta presented three signs at Monday night's City Council meeting. Which do you think would look best in North Canton?
City officials are ready to hear your opinions about three proposed entryway signs that will greet motorists and pedestrians as they enter North Canton. Councilman Mark Cerreta presented the three entryway markers at Monday night's North Canton City Council meeting and said he's eager to hear what community members have to say. New city signage was just one of several changes community members said they wanted to see during the Master Plan meetings in 2011. The Master Plan is a road map to future improvements within the city. "Many residents felt the present signs did not really reflect us as a city," Cerreta said, adding those who attended the Master Plan meetings said they didn't feel a slogan like "The Dogwood City" differentiated North…

Councilman Mark Cerreta said residents soon will get to choose from a few different city markers, which all fall in line with North Canton's Master Plan
City officials are about ready to get your opinion about new city signage that's coming to North Canton as part of the city's Master Plan. The signage would essentially be a city identifier — maybe an archway or brick wall welcoming motorists and pedestrians to North Canton. The additions had been discussed at the Master Plan meetings that took place in July, September and November of last year. Cerreta said city officials will look at several drawings, created by Dan Tullius of Tullius Art & Design, and narrow it down to three. "At that point we'll get them out to a lot of organizations, we'll put them on Patch ... and get people's opinions on which is the best one for us," Cerreta said. Cerreta had given the update about city signage at …
