As the final market day approaches Saturday, organizers consider ways to make next year's season a bigger success
The final day of the North Canton Farmers Market is approaching Saturday, and as it does, market organizers are already thinking of ways to make next year's season an even better one. One way, said organizer Dan Tullius, is to shorten the season. "It’s almost like the market has faded out here at the end," Tullius said. "A lot of our produce vendors are gone and people aren’t coming. I think that the public has kind of lost interest in the market. They’re getting on to other things now that summer's over." Tullius said the market still would start in early June, just as it did this year, but it would wrap up by the end of September. Myers brings more than tomatoes and peppers to the market — he's got several wooden toys on display, and he's full of stories to share
If you visit Don Myers' stand at the North Canton Farmers Market, you're likely to walk away with an array of tomatoes or peppers. But maybe more likely to hear a few of Myers' stories. Myers, who started the Myers Driving School in 1960, is eager to share his tales with shoppers at the market (at least he was with us that day!). Myers said he been growing tomatoes since 1960 and has about 2,500 tomato plants and 1,000 pepper plants. He now has a serve-yourself stand three miles out of Greentown between state Route 43 and Middlebranch Avenue, but from October through Christmas you'll find him at local craft shows selling his homemade wooden toys. Harriet Robinson brings the taste of her Greek heritage to North Canton in the form of pastries
Harriet Robinson only started baking three years ago, but she grew up around food at her parents' restaurant. Now she's breaking out the apron to share what she learned from her parents and her Greek heritage.
