North Canton City Schools Board of Education members got an earful Wednesday from numerous parents unhappy about a Hoover High School teacher's erotic novel. The book titled "Schooled" is described on Amazon.com as "Chelsea Handler meets '50 Shades of Gray.'" It contains adult language, adult content and explicit sex scenes and is being sold in the online store's erotic section. Carol Ann Eastman, a seven-year Hoover High teacher, reportedly authored the book under the pen name Deena Bright. Parents told the school board Wednesday that it's not the book itself that's bothersome, but comments attributed to the author about the novel, the Canton Repository reported Thursday. North Canton board will convene in district office conference room at 7:45 a.m. Friday.
The North Canton City Schools Board of Education announced Wednesday that it will hold a special meeting at 7:45 a.m. Friday in the district office conference room. A notice from Todd Tolson, district treasurer, said the purpose of the meeting is to "take action on any personnel matters, building and grounds, finance, board policy and such other matters that may properly come before the board." The district office is located at 525 7th St. N.E.

Due to increased costs for food and transportation, the North Canton City Schools Board of Education increased lunch prices for the 2011-12 school year
Lunches will cost more for North Canton students next school year. During the North Canton City Schools Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening, board members unanimously approved increasing lunch prices at the elementary, middle and high school levels. According to Treasurer Todd Tolson, all lunch prices will increase by 10 cents and milk will increase by 5 cents. The new lunch prices are as follows: elementary, $2.35; North Canton Middle School and Hoover High School, $2.60; adults, $3.10; and milk, 50 cents. Board Member Christopher Goldthorpe said the price increases are necessary because food and oil prices are on the rise, which result in the need to increase lunch prices. At first I thought the teacher should have the right to write a book of any kind under a pseudo name. I still think so. But now that she has been found out and the things she stated in her interview I feel a bit differently. Her interview statements are disgusting and I would definitely not want her teaching my child.
