City Says It Will Change New Timed Traffic Signals to Trip-Signals in the Spring

Right now, the North Main Street traffic signals are timed, causing some driving frustrations

If you've a little peeved about the timed traffic signals along North Main Street, just remember: they won't be that way for long. One North Canton resident blogged about the inconvenience of the new timed signals this week — specifically the signal at North Main Street and Wilbur Drive — saying, "I travel that area frequently and I never could understand the need for this signal originally, and it has now been compounded by placing it on timed activation." City Administrator Mike Grimes said the timed activation will change to a tripped-activation in the spring. The city had turned the four-lane road into five lanes through the North Main Street Reconstruction Project, and workers didn't get around to changing the traffic signals before …

So, if I understand this correctly, all of the side streets leading to Main Street will be on tripped activation--which sounds good until you think it through and realize again that the NEEDLESS "no turn on red" signs will trip things up (nice pun). Everytime someone wants to turn right off a side street and onto Main St, the lights on Main will turn red causing more traffic bottlenecks. The real…   more ›

Updated: Lt. Michael Wurgler Retires From North Canton Police Department

Wurgler serves his last day today after working in the department for 31 years

Lt. Michael Wurgler serves his last day at the North Canton Police Department today after announcing his retirement Thursday. The 31-year veteran became a patrolman in 1980 and was appointed lieutenant in 1991. Wurgler had applied for the position of chief and had made it into the final three. "With the appointment of the new chief, I felt it was better to (let him) have his opportunity to run the department the way he wanted to run it rather than my being here and trying to influence," …

North Canton's Dogwood Skate Park: More Trouble Than It's Worth?

Residents came forward at Monday night's North Canton City Council meeting to talk about Dogwood Skate Park and its reputation, which only worsened after last month's botched drug deal

Rusty fences, a dirty drinking fountain and too little police enforcement, in Larry Tripp’s opinion, make the Dogwood Skate Park a “breeding ground for trouble.” The North Canton resident addressed City Council Monday night with concerns that the safety of the park, in which a botched drug deal occurred March 28, will only get worse before it gets better. “The more we let this area get run down, you and I know we’re just asking for trouble,” Tripp said. Council discussed what the city could do to prevent crimes and suspicious activity from taking place in the park. Council Vice President Doug Foltz backed the park and its contributions to the community, saying he fully supported bringing it to North Canton and he hopes to find additional …

Maybe there should be an investigation on the parents of the children arrested for drug dealing. I'm not really sure what the link is between skateboarding and drug use? It seems to me that skateboarding requires effort whereas drug use requires no effort.   more ›
