Lee Spencer Photography Throws Fourth Annual Wishes Can Happen Picture Party

The husband-and-wife photography duo take silly photos of you and your friends, upload them to Facebook and give your donations to a good cause

Editor's note: The following information was provided by Lee Spencer Photography. Lee Spencer Photography's annual Picture Party event to benefit Wishes Can Happen is now in its fourth year. What started as a passion for photography and a desire to give back has now become an annual celebration for a local nonprofit, Wishes Can Happen (WCH). Guests can have photographs taken with friends and family, using wacky props provided at the studio. Images will be posted to Facebook for them to use at no cost as profile pictures and to share with friends. “What I like most about the picture end of the event is the great selection of dress-up accessories that you can use," said Heather West, board member and wish granter for WCH. Wishes Can Happen to Ask for Donations Around the Clock Thursday, Friday

The annual Wish-a-Thon benefits terminally ill children and takes place from 6 a.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday at Thursday's Plaza in Canton

Things are a little different this time around for the annual Wishes Can Happen Wish-a-Thon.  For starters, the two-day, 24-hour event has transformed into a two-day, 36-hour event in which radio personalities call for donations throughout the day and night Thursday and Friday. What's more, organizers have their sights set on a $100,000 goal. That's enough for Wishes Can Happen to grant 20 wishes to terminally ill children, and about twice as much as they've raised in years past. The event takes place from 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Friday at Thursday's Plaza, 4705 Dressler Road NW, Canton. You can pledge over the phone through 330-649-WISH (9474) or stop out to Thursday's Plaza during the Wish-a-Thon to drop off a donation and meet some…

Lee Spencer Photography Asks You to Get Silly to Help a Local Charity

Your participation in Friday's weird and wacky photo shoot will bring Wishes Can Happen one step closer to granting a wish to a child with a terminal illness

Who can resist being straight-up silly for a good cause? That's exactly what Tammy and Lee Spencer want you to do at this year's Wishes Can Happen Picture Party at Lee Spencer Photography, taking place from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday. The third annual fundraiser helps out Wishes Can Happen, a North Canton-based non-profit that grants wishes to terminally ill children.  The Spencers will have you grab some feather boas, some outrageous hats and whatever goofy props they can find and set you up in front of a backdrop with your friends for the ultimate silly photo shoot. They'll post the photos straight to Facebook as the event is happening, and you and your friends "tag" yourself so that the photos are yours to keep. Wishes Can Happen means a lot…

Wish-A-Thon For Terminally Ill Kids Kicks Off Today

Donations are rolling in while people stop out to Thursday's Plaza in Canton and call to donate to the North Canton-based charity Wishes Can Happen

Stark County doctors: You’ve been challenged. Two local doctors pledged $1,000 during today’s Wishes Can Happen AultCare & Mix 94.1 Wish-A-Thon, and they thought others would be up for some friendly competition. They’ve challenged other physicians to “out-donate” them. Radio personalities, Wishes Can Happen volunteers and donors are swarming the big white tent set up at Thursday’s Plaza in Canton today. They’re taking donations in person and through the phone line 330-649-9474 to raise money for Wishes Can Happen, a North Canton-based charity that grants wishes to terminally ill children. They’ll be at the plaza at 4705 Dressler Road NW until 6 p.m. today and from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. “We’re thankful for every donation,” said Cyndi …

Video: Wishes Can Happen Golf Scramble Raises Money for Teen's Field of Dreams

Friday's golf outing at Sanctuary Golf Club brought in about $10,000 to help build a field of dreams at one teen's Navarre home

About 95 golfers took part in the fifth annual Wishes Can Happen Golf Scramble at Sanctuary Golf Club Friday. Their contributions went toward Wishes Can Happen, a North Canton-based charity organization that grants wishes to terminally ill children. More specifically, the money will help make Andrew Heck's dream into a reality. The Central Catholic student, who was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and has endured many painful open heart surgeries, is unable to play baseball, but wants to coach little league teams at the "field of dreams" that will be built at his Navarre home.  Geoff Lewis, Wishes Can Happen president, said Carter Lumber and Rohr's Nursery have donated materials to create the field. With the businesses' help — and…

Photo of the Day: Guys Don Dresses for a Good Cause

If this isn't being a good sport, we don't know what is

Tom Reed of Silver Lake (pink dress) and Cameron Schwartz of Canton (blue dress) have some fun at the Wishes Can Happen Golf Scramble at Sanctuary Golf Club today.  The men joined friends Ed Rojeck of Mentor and Denny Bender of Green for the event that raises money for Andrew Heck's wish — to build a little league "field of dreams" at his Navarre home. All four golfers paid $5 each to put on a dress and tee off at this particular hole today. Check back with North Canton Patch Monday for video coverage of this event. And check out today's Whiz Kid feature for more information about Andrew and his wish.

Whiz Kid: Andrew Heck Wishes for a Baseball Field of Dreams

Andrew Heck, a wish recipient for Wishes Can Happen, is happiest when he's helping others excel on the baseball field

This week's Whiz Kid comes to us from Madelyn Sweeney, community relations director for Wishes Can Happen. “Andrew is passionate about baseball and doesn’t let his heart condition stop him from doing what he loves," Sweeney said. "He is one of the kindest and most optimistic young men I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Wishes Can Happen is building a baseball field of dreams at Andrew’s home, where he plans to invite little leagues to play and receive coaching.”
