More than 200 North Canton Middle School students dressed in orange Tuesday to support a pair of classmates touched by tragedy.
Earlier this week, more than 200 students arrived at North Canton Middle School wearing Viking orange in support of two classmates recently devastated by the unexpected loss of their father. The students organized it with cell phone texts and social media messages. They planned it without the help of teachers. They did it to convey a feeling that couldn’t be expressed in words. “Spontaneously, without any adult assistance, coaxing, or knowledge, hundreds of. . .friends and fellow students arrived to school (on Tuesday) wearing orange,” said NCMS teacher Todd Dannemiller. “This alone is no small feat. Hoover had St. V-M on its toes after one quarter, leading 21-15
A strong effort by the Hoover High boys basketball team wasn't enough to pull out a win over the St. Vincent-St. Mary team Tuesday night. The Vikings lost 79-71. Some highlights? Hoover led after the first quarter, 21-15, and senior forward Harrison Blackledge scored 11 fourth-quarter points, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Dom Iero led Hoover with 22 points and Blackledge 21. “I was proud of our effort,” coach Randy Montgomery told the Beacon. “I felt like it was a good game for us to play because it was kind of a physical game. We didn’t rebound as well as we needed to.” Hoover now stands 18-4 this season. The Vikings will end their season Feb. 26 with a game against Louisville at Alliance High School, according to hooverhoops.com…

Hoover High School seniors were honored at Friday night's game against Massillon, and one Patch reader was there with his camera in hand
It was a good night for Hoover High seniors this past Friday. The students not only were honored as part of Senior Night, but they celebrated a 73-50 win over Massillon. Patch reader Earle E. Wise Jr. was there, camera in hand, and captured more than 60 shots of the ceremony and basketball game. This year's girls and boys basketball players are getting some limelight on North Canton Patch this week, after a Patch user uploaded dozens of game shots to the website
Hoover High athletes are once again in the spotlight on North Canton Patch, as one user uploaded dozens of recent game shots to the Pics & Clips gallery. The Lady Vikings had beat Perry High School last Saturday, while the boys basketball team brought in a win over Bishop Kearny (from New York) at a Walsh University, and Patch viewer Earle E. The North Canton boys basketball team won Friday's game over GlenOak High School, 75-54
The Hoover High varsity boys basketball team won big over GlenOak High School Friday night. The Vikings brought in a 75-54 win, with Harrison Blackledge scoring 14 points and Dom Iero finishing with a game-high 25 points, according to the Canton Repository. “(Blackledge) is a big part of their defense, and Iero is the key to their perimeter game,” GlenOak head coach Jack Greynolds Jr. told the Rep. “When you take those two out of the picture, they’re a lot like the rest of us.” You can read the Repository's full coverage of the game here.
