New Mobile App Makes Navigating Stark Parks A Walk In The ...

The new mobile app lets users report an injured animal, access trail maps and see the hours for their favorite parks and trails

Stark Parks hopes to make navigating its trails a no-brainer. The organization has launched a mobile app that allows users to access trail maps, embedded Google maps, addresses and hours for their favorite parks and trails. Stark Parks posted on its Facebook page just this week and told its followers about the new option. It suggests you head to this page to send yourself a link to download the app. You'll submit your phone number on that page and a text will be sent to your phone with a link to the app. North Canton Patch wants to know: Did you download it yet? What are some of the benefits? Tell us in the comments!

Stark Parks to Gauge Opinions on Trail That Connects Kent Stark to North Canton YMCA

There's more. The organization also will tear down the former Pathway Caring for Children building on Wise Avenue and turn it into a flood plain.

Stark Parks wants to hear from you this year when planning a trail that connects Kent State University's Stark Campus to the North Canton YMCA. The organization received a $710,000 grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation, said Bob Fonte, director of Stark Parks. The organization also receives a 20 percent local match for a total project estimate of $887,500. Stark Parks has planned a preliminary route from the bridge to Whipple Avenue, and that's pre-approved, but the organization still needs the route from Whipple and Dressler Road to the YMCA approved.  Stark Parks plans to hire a design consultant this year to help with that project. “There will be specific public meetings just for this trail when we hire that consultant," …

What is the point of having these trails if Starks Parks cannot maintain them. Today when we walked we had to walk on the grass most of the time because the trails was so wet and soggy that we could not even walk on it. Instead of adding trails doesn't it make more sense to maintain what the parks already has?   more ›

More than 40 Walsh University students will commemorate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday with a day of service to the community

The group will spend the afternoon on-site with the community partners and have time for dinner and reflection back on campus.   In addition to the heritage society and Stark Parks, volunteers will help the Boys and Girls Club, House of Loreto, JR Coleman Adult Daycare and Refuge of Hope. Happy Trails for Stark Parks' Issue 55

Stark County voters passed the levy, which will cover the park district’s general operating costs and maintain existing resources as well as keep up on the quality of its facilities, trails, picnic areas and nature centers

It'll be happy trails for Stark Parks after voters passed a 1 mill, eight-year property tax levy that was on the ballot as Issue 55. Voters OK'd the levy with an unofficial vote of 86,514 to 82,577, according to the Stark County Board of Elections. "It was close," Stark Parks Director Bob Fonte said. "If you think about it, we were competing against the 32 other tax issues on the ballot around the county, and that adds up. Not everyone voted for every levy, but everybody had to choose between us and several others." The levy includes a .5 mill replacement and .5 mill increase. It would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $30.63 a year. North Canton Patch talked with resident Adam Romans, who cast his ballot at the North Canton Civic Center …

I would like to know whose bright idea it was to bring a part of this path through to the run down parking lot on Hower St. There is a bus route on this street and there are also some huge semi trucks and traffic from businesses on this route. Not very safe at times at all. This was a poor idea and some wasted taxpayers money. I thought these were supposed to be nature trails.   more ›

Do You Enjoy Stark Parks? If Yes, Park District Wants Your Vote

Stark Parks has a 1-mill, eight-year property tax levy on the ballot as Issue 55

Stark Parks’ popularity is growing, and park district personnel hope that plays to their advantage when voters consider a 1-mill, eight-year property tax levy that’s on the ballot as Issue 55. “I think people are beginning to recognize the importance we have in the community,” Park Director Bob Fonte said. “All you have to do is ride by Hoover High School or Washington Square or GlenOak High School to see the activity level. It’s an opportunity to live healthier and people are taking advantage of it.” The park district will ask North Canton and Stark County residents for a vote of “yes” to approve the levy, which includes a .5-mill replacement and .5-mill increase. It would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $30.63 a year, Fonte said. “We …
