Text Alerts Give North Canton Residents a Heads Up in Emergencies
The city is part of a wireless emergency notification system that enables dispatchers to send texts, emails and phone calls during emergencies
Emergency notifications — about floods, a missing child or boil alert — are now a reality in North Canton. City employees and residents can now receive text messages emails and phone calls in the event of a disaster or emergency now that the city is a partner in the Stark County Emergency Notification Program. "We can notify numerous phones, numerous texts, numerous emails at the touch of a button," said North Canton Fire Chief John Bacon, who led the discussion about the system at a city council meeting in May. Before, the city could contact residents through a landline reverse emergency notification system that was provided through an existing Canton system.
