City Man Assaults Police Officer, Tries to Take Gun

Jay H. Schweitzer, 25, charged with felonious assault on a North Canton police officer and resisting arrest.

A city man was arrested and jailed on a felony charge early Wednesday morning after fighting with North Canton Police officers and trying to take one of their guns, according to Chief Stephan Wilder. Jay H. Schweitzer, 25, of 148 Wise Ave. S.E., was charged with felonious assault on a police officer, a first-degree felony, and resisting arrest, a first-degree misdemeanor, after an incident on East Maple Street that resulted in slight injuries to a city officer. Wilder said in a press release issued Thursday that at about 5:23 a.m. Wednesday a female motorist traveling in the 1000 block of East Maple “saw a man walking on the sidewalk acting out loudly as if he was disturbed in some way.” The woman flagged down an officer on patrol in the …
