Giant Eagle Robbery Case Heads to Grand Jury

A Stark County grand jury will hear the facts in the April 14 robbery in which a man pulled a knife on a Giant Eagle employee

A grand jury will hear evidence in the case involving Ronald E. Keen III, 21, of Canton, who's accused of pulling a knife on a Giant Eagle employee. Police say Keen was being unruly with a security guard at the front of the store at 1955 E. Maple St. about 4:15 p.m. April 14. Then he threatened at least one of the store employees with a pocket knife before running east through the parking lot. Police arrested Keen after catching up with him in a yard in the 100 block of Bellview Street NE. He was taken by North Canton Fire and EMS to Mercy Medical Center for treatment after complaining of minor injuries. Preliminary Hearing Date Set for Giant Eagle Knife Suspect

Ronald E. Keen's pre-trial begins April 23.

The man accused of pulling a knife on at least one Giant Eagle employee received a preliminary hearing date Tuesday morning in Canton Municipal Court. Ronald E. Keen III, 21, of Canton, will return to court at 2 p.m. on April 23. He faces two felony charges — aggravated robbery and possession of heroin. If convicted, Keen faces up to 10 years for the robbery charge and a one-year maximum for heroin possession, according to the Stark County Common Pleas Court. North Canton police arrested Keen Saturday after he allegedly pulled a knife on an employee in front of the grocery store at 1955 E. Arraignment continued for man who carried heroin and pulled a knife on a Giant Eagle employee.

Editor's note: An error regarding Keen's court appearance was corrected Tuesday at 2:50 p.m. The arraignment for a Canton man accused of threatening a Giant Eagle employee with a pocket knife will be continued this morning in Canton. Ronald E. Keen III, 21, of Canton, will appear at 9 a.m. at Canton Municipal Court for a continued arraignment related to his arrest Saturday for allegedly pulling a knife on at least one employee at the grocery store. Keen appeared in Massillon Municipal Court Monday morning. According to Canton Clerk of Courts, Keen will face two felony charges — possession of drugs and aggravated robbery. Keen III, 21, of Canton, was being uncooperative with a security guard at the front of the store at 1955 E. Maple St. Then he threatened at least one of the store employees with a pocket knife before running east through the parking lot.
