Stark Parks to Gauge Opinions on Trail That Connects Kent Stark to North Canton YMCA

There's more. The organization also will tear down the former Pathway Caring for Children building on Wise Avenue and turn it into a flood plain.

Stark Parks wants to hear from you this year when planning a trail that connects Kent State University's Stark Campus to the North Canton YMCA. The organization received a $710,000 grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation, said Bob Fonte, director of Stark Parks. The organization also receives a 20 percent local match for a total project estimate of $887,500. Stark Parks has planned a preliminary route from the bridge to Whipple Avenue, and that's pre-approved, but the organization still needs the route from Whipple and Dressler Road to the YMCA approved.  Stark Parks plans to hire a design consultant this year to help with that project. “There will be specific public meetings just for this trail when we hire that consultant," …

What is the point of having these trails if Starks Parks cannot maintain them. Today when we walked we had to walk on the grass most of the time because the trails was so wet and soggy that we could not even walk on it. Instead of adding trails doesn't it make more sense to maintain what the parks already has?   more ›

Muskie Maniacs Bestow Gifts on Pathway Children

Christmas gets brighter for foster, adopted and community kids served by Pathway Caring for Children.

The foster, adopted and community children served by Pathway Caring for Children were the recipients of a generous donation of toys for under their Christmas trees given by members of the Akron-Canton Chapter 19 Muskie Maniacs group. North Canton resident Wendy Tracy, executive director of Pathway Caring for Children, accepted the Muskie Maniacs' donation Friday during an event held at the “home” of the North Canton Eagles. In recent years the Muskie Maniacs have “adopted” Pathway Caring for Children and participated in fundraisers to support the private, non-profit social service agency’s “Home is Where the Heart Is” annual auction and collected toys for the Children of Pathway. “The guys have a real soft spot for children and helping …

Zepp's Pizza Steps Up to 'Raise Dough' For Adoption Agency

The North Canton pizza shop will host a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 12 to benefit Pathway Caring for Children

It's been a good year for Zepp's Pizza. The pizza shop on South Main Street has redecorated its interior, it's revamped its menu, polished its website and increased its presence on Facebook and Twitter. With things going their way, the folks running Zepp's Pizza knew it was time to give back to the community. And with Christmas around the corner, they've chosen to spread the holiday cheer and help Pathway Caring for Children. "The more I looked into it, the more I was sure these were the people we wanted to support and connect with," said Zepp's Pizza owner Jon Zepp. "And if we can do what we do — make pizza — and cut a slice of that profit and contribute to what they do, that's a best-of-both-worlds kind of scenario." The restaurant will …

The pizza at Zepp's is fantastic! Their specialty pizzas are especially good. I am addicted to the spinach, tomato and feta. This is such a kind gesture. Sounds like a win-win to me! Be there or be square!   more ›

North Canton Social Service Agency Relocates to Canton After Recent Flood

Pathway Caring for Children has found a new location in Canton and plans to stay there for at least one year

Pathway Caring for Children has relocated its main offices to 4895 Dressler Road N.W. in Canton. Monday night's storm and high waters marked the third major flood to hit the nonprofit social service agency in four months, according to a Pathway news release. “We were able to pull together after the first two floods,” said Eric Belden, executive director of Pathway, in the news release. “But the recent water damage made our facility — and our equipment and materials inside — irrecoverable.” Pathway works with children dealing with abuse, neglect, abandonment and mental-health issues. The new offices will allow staff to better serve these children and their families. Pathway plans to remain at this new location for at least a year. “Our …
