GALLERY: North Canton Preps for Visit From Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan

Republican supporters flocked to North Canton Memorial Stadium Thursday evening to paint signs for today's big campaign rally

Today, North Canton gets a chance to show off in a big way. It will host thousands of people when presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan come to town for their campaign rally, and city officials and residents are making sure the city is prepped and polished for the limelight. North Canton Mayor David Held said workers have been busy prepping the city for the event. "We wanted to make sure all the streets are clean, and a great segment of Main Street is paved, so it's a little smoother for the motorcade," Held said. "We're going to have thousands of people coming into the city for this event alone, and that in itself is economic development." But is the preparation a ton of work?  Not as much as you might think, …

President Obama did acknowledge the terrorist attack in Benghazi - that very day in the Rose Garden. Don't take my word for it - see the video for yourself. If he 'hasn't done anything to fix the economy in 4 years', how about the Republican/Tea Party-dominated House that has stonewalled him every step of the way since day 1? They wouldn't even pass a routine transportation/infrastructure bill or…   more ›

'Booming' Sounds From Over the Weekend Most Likely Fireworks

Several North Canton residents heard some loud sounds, like detonations or gunshots, late Saturday night and Sunday morning. North Canton Patch never got a definitive answer on what they were, but it looks like fireworks might have been to blame.

Did you hear those booming sounds late Saturday night and into Sunday morning?  Lots of Patch readers sure did. They sent in emails to Patch, sounded off on the North Canton Patch Facebook page and tweeted at us Monday about the mystery noise that many described as gunshots or detonations.  North Canton police dispatchers said they never received any reports on the noises from over the weekend, although some Patch readers said they thought about calling in. If we were to put our finger on the culprit, we'd have to go with fireworks. North Canton Patch received an email from a reader (who asked we not use his name) after we posted our first story Monday. "The loud noise Saturday night was fireworks that was set off at a residence somewhere …

Several Residents Hear Loud Noises Saturday Night — Did You?

Police haven't received any reports about the noises, described by some as sounding like "detonations," but here's what Patch readers are saying about the unidentified sounds

Several North Canton residents heard loud sounds — some described them as gunshots or detonations — late Saturday night and into Sunday morning.  But what were they? North Canton Police dispatchers said this morning they've received no reports of any unusual noises over the weekend, but North Canton Patch Facebook followers have certainly heard them. Here's what they've been saying this morning: We're even hearing from our Twitter followers today, too. North Canton Patch first heard about the sounds through an email from a Patch reader who said he heard the sounds by North Canton Middle School. You, too, can send your news tips to Local Editor Morgan Day at Morgan.Day@patch.com. Check back for more information about the sounds. Who knows, …

Jim, That's a weird comment. It is presumptuous and unfair. I think Werren deserves a fair chance. Who cares if her dad was/is a lawyer. That kind of legal perspective that likely influenced her upbringing could be very useful to North Canton.   more ›
