New Work City Foundation's Sunday in the City event brought together local artists and crafters to sell their wares in downtown North Canton. They gathered inside Bitzer Park Sunday afternoon and advertised everything from home-sewn and hand-stuffed items, cat condos, jewelry and paintings. Take a look at the accompanying video and hear John Allensworth, art committee chair for New Work City Foundation, talk about Sunday's turnout. He said the next event for New Work City Foundation is an art gallery opening at the Barrel Room Wine & Beer Bar at the beginning of October (the exact date to be announced). John Wince of Ziffycat Cat Condos and Jackie Forney of Forneys Finerys also tell us a little about their products that day.

It's back! The Sunday in the City event takes place Sunday in Bitzer Park and promises to have twice as many artists as the first event in July.
Sunday in the City organizers are hoping you're ready to give their event another go. The event takes place from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. this Sunday. It's a sort of "encore" to the first Sunday in the City event, which took place July 22 and boasted of about 15 local artists. You'll see several more artists at this weekend's event after organizers opened it up to crafters, says John Allensworth, art committee chairman with New Work City Foundation, which hosts the event. "We have double the number of artists that we had last time," Allensworth said. "It'll be a much bigger event." Also in store are face painters from the North Canton Playhouse, all-day entertainment from musician Mark Loy and a mother-son team that performs nursery rhymes. New Work …

Artists, entertainers and shoppers took over Bitzer Park this weekend as New Work City Foundation hosted its first Sunday in the City event of the year
This weekend's Sunday in the City event brought in artists from across the spectrum for a full day of entertainment in North Canton's Bitzer Park. Artists ranged from jewelry-makers to wine glass painters and furniture restorers. Staci Ford of Furniture Zombie was new this year to the event, which now is in its second year. Ford brought with her several upcycled items, like music records molded into containers and old furniture that was given a new life with interesting new fabric. "I had sold stuff on the Internet for a long time and it was really just for friends and family, and they thought I was nuts," Ford said. "And then it just snowballed into this monster." Ford said she was pleased with how the event turned out Sunday. She had …

The community music and arts event kicks off Sunday in Bitzer Park and takes place again Sept. 9
New Work City Foundation is bringing Sunday in the City back to Bitzer Park this weekend. And this time it welcomes 17 artists ranging from fine art to jewelery and photography, plus musical acts and North Canton Playhouse actors. Sunday's event — which is free, by the way — is held from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. in Bitzer Park. It also features an ice cream truck, lemonade stand and pizza from Ermanno's Legendary Pizza. Now in its second year, Sunday in the City is a can't-miss event, according to John Allensworth, art committee chairman with New Work City Foundation. "This is real wholesome, small-town America, family fun on a Sunday afternoon," he said. "That’s what it is. To me it’s like a Norman Rockwell type of a thing." Allensworth said he's …

Those who arrive at the Taste of North Canton event Wednesday night will get to sample the best of the city's grub, slice by slice and bite by bite. Owners and employees from more than 30 area restaurants will be on hand, passing out samples of their popular dishes that night. "If each one gives you a tiny sample, that’s a buffet," said Vicki Stanley, founder of New Work City Foundation, which has hosted the annual event for four years now. The event takes place from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Wednesday and costs $10 for adults. Kids ages 6-12 are $5 and those 5 and under are free. Tickets are available through Stanley by calling 330-323-5745, and you can also pay at the door. If the thought of sampling 30 different restaurants' dishes doesn't …

Nearly 100 people stopped out to the Barrel Room Monday night to support local artists and help raise money for the non-profit organization, New Work City Foundation
Don't think you missed your chance to catch all the wine-inspired artwork in the Barrel Room. Although "Wine Not Support the Arts?" kicked off with an opening celebration Monday night, wine lovers can still check out all the works from local artists through March 3 and vote for their favorite artist through Feb. 25. The event was hosted by New Work City Foundation, which distributes grants to businesses and organizations in Stark County for the purpose of creating jobs. "Everybody's getting some wine and just relaxing," Barrel Room owner Adam Todd said during the end of the event. "It's been a great success." North Canton resident Sue Hicks…

Sunday in the City will bring together local artists while offering the community an opportunity to have a relaxing day to embrace the talent
The New Work City Foundation, a nonprofit charity that aims to create jobs for people all over Stark County, knows how to have fun and raise money at the same time. Their motto is, after all, to "have fun, raise money and give it all back." One event sponsored by NWCF was the Taste of North Canton. The event was a huge success, said Vicki Stanley, a North Canton business owner and founder of NWCF. "Our last event, the Taste of North Canton, held in May at the Fairways at Arrowhead, drew 400 friends and neighbors from the community. Enjoying tasty samples from over 20 restaurants and rockin' to the blues of the Brighter Side Band was only the beginning." The NWCF was able to award a $2,500 working-grant to the special education class at …
