North Canton Loses Its Administrative Services Director to the City of Canton

Bill Bartos has left his job with North Canton, creating an open position that the city may not fill. The city also is considering layoffs in addition to not filling open positions this year.

North Canton city officials will have to make some tough choices this year as they consider whether to fill open positions and administer layoffs. The most recent open position is that of city services director, which was filled by Bill Bartos from November 2011 until Feb. 1 of this year. City Administrator Mike Grimes said Bartos was not laid off but left his position for a similar job with the city of Canton. Bartos had acted as an assistant city administrator, filling in for Grimes on occasion, overseeing city operations, assisting in bid and union contracts and reviewing legislation, among other tasks. He started and ended the job with a salary of $60,000. "I was happy with Bill, and he worked well for us and did everything we asked," …

City Says No to 2013 'Canton Marathon' If Not Paid Upfront For Police, Fire Services

The city of North Canton announced this week it will not be part of the 2013 Canton Marathon, now called the Hall of Fame City Challenge, if it is not paid for providing services in 2012 and if it is not paid upfront for the 2013 race

After doling out thousands of dollars in police and fire services for the 2012 Canton Marathon without being reimbursed, the city of North Canton is still mulling over whether it will be a part of the 2013 race. The 2012 Canton Marathon cost the city of North Canton about $9,700. To date, it's seen repayment of about $820. Faced with the option of participating in the 2013 race, now titled Hall of Fame City Challenge, City Administrator Mike Grimes said the city would need to be fully repaid and see a payment upfront in 2013 before agreeing to participate.
