Video: Kent Stark's Environmental Media Class Wraps Up With On-Campus Film Screening

Students in Kent Stark's Environmental Media course — the first ever at Kent State University — showed off their films in the Main Hall Auditorium Thursday afternoon

Students in the Environmental Media course at Kent State University Stark Campus screened the films they've worked on all semester and showed off their knowledge of environmental issues Thursday. A handful of students participated in the course, which brought together journalism, communications, biology and other majors and teamed them up to produce short films on the problems facing the Nimishillen Creek Watershed. The students' topics ranged from septic tanks to general ways to be more environmentally conscious and a topic discussed at a recent city council meeting: fracking, or hydraulic fracturing. The students who created the fracking video had logged 2,000 miles in four weeks as they traveled to Pennsylvania, New York and other areas…

Kent Stark Celebrates End of Semester With Kentiki

Kent Stark campus offers students a stress-free conclusion to the semester with the two-day Kentiki event

It's nearly May and the semester at Kent State University Stark Campus is coming to an end. Research papers, last-minute homework and final exams are the only things on the mind of most students. Kristi Yerian, the Student Life Coordinator at the campus, is trying to give students a chance to escape all that with the Kentiki, an event that runs Wednesday and Thursday in front of the Campus Center (or inside depending on the weather). “Students are starting to get stressed out because of finals approaching, so they can take some time to lay on a beach towel, listen to some music and not have to worry," she said. Kentiki is a time for students to relax a bit during two days of festivities, including live music, an obstacle course, spin-art …

Families enjoyed mock fossil digs, erupting volcano demonstrations, nature hikes and more at the annual celebration at the Kent State University Stark Campus

The Kent State University Stark Campus hosted its annual Earth Day Celebration Sunday afternoon and welcomed dozens of families for a day of education and fun. Kids played in sandboxes (or were they archaeological digs?), jumped through fields during sack races, watched erupting volcano demonstrations and tons more. Cain Toyota had a shiny new Toyota Prius on the grounds, while other organizations and student groups set up information tables near the Campus Center parking lot. Kent Stark Dean Walter Wagor also accepted the campus' second Tree Campus USA award from the National Arbor Day Foundation that day.

Max Weinberg Keeps the Beat With Kent Stark Students

Weinberg, the drummer for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, performed alongside students at a free event at Kent State University Stark Campus Monday night

When Kent State Stark featured speakers take the stage, they typically do a lot of, well, speaking. Then there’s Max Weinberg, who came to campus Monday night and not only shared his insights into the music industry, but played alongside a handful of Kent State music students. The drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street band and bandleader of the Max Weinberg 7 on Late Night With Conan O’Brien performed with nine music students for about 40 minutes. Taking jabs at his age all night (he’ll be 60 in two months), Weinberg said the students gave him a good workout that night. “I’m soaking wet,” he said after the performance. “I know you can’t see it because I don’t really sweat, I kind of glisten. It’s a TV thing.” They played hits like …
