LOOK: Local Republican National Convention Delegate Shares Shots from Tampa

We're able to give you an inside look at the Republican National Convention, thanks to North Canton resident Jordan Greenwald

The Republican National Convention is underway in Tampa, FL, and sure enough, we've got some North Canton representation there. North Canton resident Jordan Greenwald has sent us a few photos this week, including shots of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and presidential candidate Mitt Romney's wife, Ann. This national convention is a first for Greenwald, former member of the school board for North Canton City Schools. "It's been an absolute blast," he wrote in to us today. "The speakers have been great and diverse. The loudest cheers of the night came for Ann Romney. John Kasich was great. One of the best speeches came from Artur Davis. Scott Walker received several standing ovations and Chris Christie spoke from the heart and fired up the …

Gallina: What Does the New Year Hold For North Canton City Schools?

Superintendent Michael Gallina addresses the community and gives a heads-up about the coming year at North Canton City Schools

Editor's Note: The following is a news release from Michael Gallina, superintendent of the North Canton City School District.  Now that all of the confetti has been swept up, the party hats put away for another year, and the resolutions made (and broken by now), I thought I would share what is on the horizon for the school district as we begin 2012 together. Below, I have summarized some of the activity that has us excited for the final months of this school year and for the opening of next school year: Our Unified Elementary Design MUCH planning has taken place over the past several months with regard to our upcoming Unified Elementary Design. I am overwhelmed by the input of the internal staff team and by the external parent feedback …

Nancy Bundy and Jordan Greenwald Bid Adieu to Board of Education

The two attended their final meeting as North Canton City School Board members Thursday night

Nancy Bundy and Jordan Greenwald reflected on their years on North Canton City Schools’ Board of Education at their last board meeting Thursday night. Bundy, a member for 12 years, chose not to run for re-election this year, while Greenwald, board president and member for four years, was defeated in the November election in which five candidates vied for two board seats. Superintendent Michael Gallina had kind words for both, praising Bundy for her 12 years served, and crediting Greenwald for serving as board president during a difficult financial time for the district. “We certainly appreciate your leadership as president and the fatherly approach you bring to things here, always reflecting through your children’s eyes and your wife’s …

The approval of Todd Henne as business manager is on the agenda for tonight's North Canton City Schools Board of Education meeting

One of Hoover High School's associate principals may become the district's business manager, if approved by North Canton City Schools Board of Education. Board members are set to discuss the approval of Todd Henne as business manager at tonight's 6 p.m. meeting in the Hoover Media Center. John Stanley now has the position and announced in August that he would retire in March 2012. He said he made the announcement months in advance so he could help transition someone into the position. The board is also prepared to recognize departing members Nancy Bundy, who did not run for re-election this year, and Board President Jordan Greenwald, who ran and was defeated. Check back with North Canton Patch Friday for coverage of tonight's board meeting.

Jennifer Kling Keeps Lead After School Board Recount

The Stark County Board of Elections recounted votes in the North Canton City Schools Board of Education race Monday

There's no doubt after a Monday recount by the Stark County Board of Elections: Jennifer Kling will join the North Canton City School District Board of Education. The Canton Repository reported Kling won the vote — 4,294 to 4,283 — over incumbent Jordan Greenwald, the board's president. The recount was one of three involving boards of education in Stark County, the Rep reported. Betty Fulton also takes a seat on the board for the first time. Tough Luck For Voters Who Think They Received Wrong Ballots

Jeanette Mullane, Stark County Board of Elections director, said voters who think they should have voted in the North Canton School Board race will not have another chance to vote

North Canton Patch has gotten word that several voters believe they received the wrong ballots regarding the North Canton City School Board race on Election Day. Some people who cast their ballots at the North Canton Church of Christ feel they should have voted for North Canton City School Board and instead got information about Plain Township on their ballots. Jeanette Mullane, Stark County Board of Elections director, said it’s a common concern she hears every year, and it’s likely the voters were confused about which district they lived in but still received the correct ballots. The North Canton Church of Christ polling site brought in voters from four precincts (North Canton 2C, North Canton 3B, Plain 10 and Plain 29). She said each of…

Ohio Revised Code says under section 3515 that if the margin is slimmer than .5%, then an automatic recount is triggered. http://moritzlaw.osu.edu/electionlaw/ebook/part5/procedures_recount01.html Also, the provisional ballots were not part of the unofficial results posted Tuesday night. So theoretically, if there's 14 more votes for Jordan Greenwald than Jennifer Kling in the recount, or the …   more ›

All North Canton candidates for office were asked to include in their ‘Candidate Statement’ their answer to the question, “How will the city deal with state budget cuts?” There was a reason this same question was posed to each candidate and it would be helpful if each candidate would provide a response to that question. I look forward to hearing your ideas.   more ›
