The North Canton resident and Hoover High grad will lead the girls basketball team, replacing Tim Vick as head coach

The Hoover High girls basketball team now has one of its own in the driver’s seat — Abbey (Moore) Allerding of North Canton. The Hoover High grad just landed the position of varsity coach. Her Viking roots set her apart from the rest of the candidates who vied to fill the position, which opened when Tim Vick resigned last month. “What stood out for us more than anything was that she was a Hoover kid and it was a great opportunity for her to come home,” Athletic Director Don Shimek said. Allerding took a few minutes to talk to North Canton Patch this week about coming back to her alma mater and her expectations for her first year coaching at Hoover High. Hoover High Takes First Place at Diebold 'Paint Off' (With Photos)

A team of five Hoover High students competed against four other groups and took home the first-place prize Thursday

Editor's note: The following information was provided to us by Hoover High art teacher Christopher Triner. Congratulations to Hoover High artists who participated May 10 at the first Diebold "Paint Off." A team of five Hoover students competed against four other groups from local high schools to complete a 4x4 mural that depicts the student's concept of the assigned theme of innovation. With a time limit of two hours and 15 minutes to plan, lay out and paint their concept, our students moved quickly to blend the imagery of the mechanical past with today's digital age. Pot Brownie Reported at Hoover High on 4/20: Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the North Canton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police responded to Hoover High School after being told one student gave another a brownie laced with marijuana during the school day on April 20. The student ate the brownie knowing that the marijuana was in it, according to the police report. The report did not list any suspect information. Car damaged by rock-thrower on Everhard Road Someone threw a rock at a car's windshield three to four times, breaking the windshield and denting the roof, between 11:30 p.m. May 4 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The car was sitting in the 100 block of Everhard Road. Drunken man with shopping cart arrested outside Gabriel Bros. A 30-year-old Canton man was arrested for theft and disorderly conduct by intoxication about 2 a.m. April 28, after police saw him …

Hoover High Named One of U.S. News & World Report's Best High Schools

The magazine ranks Hoover High School 47th in the state

Hoover High School is the 47th best public, charter or magnet high school in Ohio, and the 1,145th best in the nation, according to new rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. Hoover High recieved the silver medal and was praised for its participation rate (37 percent) in Advanced Placement courses. Students are also 97 percent proficient in reading and 96 percent proficient in math, according to the magazine. According to the annual ranking by U.S. News and World Report, neighboring Jackson High School came in as the 24th best high school in Ohio and the 647th best in the nation. Superintendent Reveals Plan for New Coach

With Tim Vick's resignation as Hoover High girls basketball coach, Michael Gallina and staff hope to have a replacement by the end of May.

North Canton City Schools officials plan to have a new Hoover High girls basketball coach in place by the end of the month, Superintendent Michael Gallina said. The position opened April 30, when former coach Tim Vick filed his resignation. Vick's announcement arrived about a week after he made a racially insensitive joke at the team's banquet, with Gallina in attendance. Gallina said the the job posting will remain open through Monday. After that, Athletic Director Don Shimek and Hoover Principal Tony Pallija will organize an interview team to meet with candidates as early as mid-week. The superintendent said the district will look for a few, key qualities in its search for a new coach. "They'll want to be able to nurture leadership in …
