The commitment required to play is impressive
More impressive to me Saturday than the Hoover High hockey team's performance on the ice was meeting some of the players, coaches and parents who make the program a reality. Their commitment runs deep and without much fanfare beyond the inner circle of the Hoover hockey collective family. To play hockey at Hoover is expensive and generally requires years of practice and training. Not to mention the fact that the Vikings' home rink is off-site at Center Ice near the Akron-Canton Airport. Team Manager Carl Werwinski spoke about the financial burdens on the families and practice hardships. With Saturday's win, the Vikings maintain their hold on the league playoff spot

But the team may miss the services of Shane Saba, who received a game misconduct with just 38 seconds left in the one-sided contest. "We played with teamwork today," said Vikings Coach Geoff Bishop. "In our other tournament games, we had a number of guys playing as individuals. Today we played much better because of that teamwork." The Vikings entered the game with Lakewood at 1-1 in tournament play, losing to Midview 6-4 and tying host Parma, 3-3. In the loss to Midview, the Vikings had single goals from Dave Werwinski, Boston Weber, Koonce and Saba. In the 3-3 …
