Ermanno's Pizza Named 'Fifth Best in the Midwest' at North American Pizza & Ice Cream Show

Which pizza helped them nab the title? It was Ermanno's Zen Pie, featuring creamy ricotta cheese, cajun sausage and banana peppers.

The pizza pie-making duo behind Ermanno's Legendary Pizza won't stop until they're No. 1. Owners Lisa and Alan Frank gave it another go at this past weekend's North American Pizza & Ice Cream Show in Columbus, placing fifth in the competition that pits about 65 pizza makers from about 15 states against one another. Although fifth-place is nothing to sulk about, Alan Frank said he is still dreaming of a first-place finish. "It's a little bit luck, but you do see the same people making the finals every year," he said. "You can tell who knows what they're doing and who's new." The Franks have competed for four years now, earning 17th place in 2010, fourth in 2011 and ninth in 2012. Nine of their 12 pizzas submitted in the competitions have …

Ermanno's was one of three local businesses to receive scholarships to be part of a green business audit in late 2012. Like the audit …

Shop Pink in North Canton to Benefit Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which means a variety of pink products will be hitting the shelves. But, do your pink purchases always go towards the cause?

A wave of pink is flooding stores everywhere, as retailers participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the savvy shopper, it's an opportunity to donate to a good cause while snagging unique, pink-hued items. In North Canton it looks like businesses (especially restaurants) are eager to give to the cause. But before you plunk down your green for some pink, the nonprofits behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month want you to check the label. Jenna Glazer, director of development for Young Survival Coalition (YSC), a global organization dedicated to helping young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer, said that buyers should be on the lookout for a label or tag that tells where the money from the purchase goes. "If you walk into Bed …

VIDEO: 'You're Hired!' Program Gives Special-Needs Students Working Experience

The programs open the door for special needs students to get real working experience and gives them the opportunity to find employment within the city

For the past few weeks, six special needs students from Hoover High School have gotten the chance to work in local businesses to gain hands-on experience. The students are all participants of Transition U — a collaboration launched by Patti Thoman that connects North Canton City Schools and Walsh University and gives special needs students a college experience. But within Transition U, the students also are participating in “You’re Hired!” — a hands-on work experience (think of it as an unpaid internship) for all six students. They work inside a variety of businesses (this month it was Ermanno’s Legendary Pizza, Dansizen Printing and American Medical Personnel), and the hope is that each student gets hired part-time at one of the …

Announcing North Canton Patch's Little Fan Winner: Gabriel Cooper

Out of the 13 entries we received for our Little Fan contest, 4-year-old Gabriel Cooper and his mother Christina Weyrick-Cooper came out on top.

A few weeks ago we asked you to show us your Little Fans and, in our opinion, you rocked it. We received 13 entries showcasing cheerleaders, football players, wide-eyed babies and fans surrounded by all the sports gear you can cram into a kid's bedroom. But, there must be an all-star among all the fans, right? That all-star is 4-year-old Gabriel Cooper, the mittened munchkin football player whose photo we received from mom Christina Weyrick Cooper. And man, what a tough choice it was! Mood Food columnist Meegan Massello and photographer Rob Netro put their heads together for this one, while Twinsburg Patch Editor Mitch Cooper also cast a vote. Congrats Christina and Gabriel! You guys can have one heck of a pizza party with that $50 gift …
