Part of East Maple and curb lane on Main will be shut down between 3 and 7:30 p.m.
The North Canton Police Department has issued an advisory to motorists regarding downtown street closures between 3 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday to accommodate participants and visitors attending the city’s annual Community Christmas Sing and Tree Lighting event. East Maple Street will be closed to through traffic between McKinley Avenue S.W. and Main Street and the northbound curb lane on Main Street will be closed from Bitzer Street S.W. to Witwer Street N.W. Limited handicap parking is available at the North Canton YMCA and City Hall. However, ample parking and easy accessibility to the events should not be a problem, said police Chief Stephan Wilder. Chamber commissions Hoover High construction technologies students to build little green and red holiday structure.
Jolly Old St. Nick now has a North Canton home to call his own – one carefully crafted by Hoover High School construction technologies students commissioned for the important task by the North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce. The 10th through 12th grade students toiled in their school workshop like elves in order to complete the Santa House in a very short time frame leading up to this Sunday’s big Christmas Sing and Tree Lighting. The annual event kicks off at 4:30 p.m. on the Hoover Company lawn. When they arrive on a North Canton fire truck at 5:45 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will likely be surprised to see they finally have their own digs in which to spend the evening hearing the Christmas wishes of area children. Christmas is on its way, and North Canton is ready to kick off yet another Christmas Sing and Tree Lighting. This year's event takes place Dec. 2, with events taking place on the Hoover Company lawn and along East Maple Street. The scheduled activities include a holiday performance by the Elite Silver Stars from 4:30 p.m.-5 p.m., followed by the Hoover High School Hi-Notes and Hi-Los. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive on a North Canton fire truck at 5:45. Then, Mayor Held and guests will light the Christmas tree. Santa will stay to visit with children in his special Santa House following the tree lighting.
