Passion for Uncommon Cars Drives North Canton Man to Exclusive Michigan Show

Car collecting knows no bounds with enthusiasts like John Kristoff, who is spending his week in Michigan for the Concours d’Elegance of America car show

When you think of a summer car show, does a ‘57 Chevy or a split-window Corvette come to mind? Well, it’s time to cruise down memory lane and think about the cars you might have seen but had no way of identifying. John Kristoff of North Canton can do more than just identify rare cars; he connects to history and people through these unique works of mobile art. Kristoff grew up like most kids his age, collecting Matchbox cars and idolizing powerful automobiles. Rather than having a band in his parents' garage, he and his buddies started fixing cars they had bought — first just for themselves, then for others. “I’ll never forget my first car — a 1972 Chevelle painted Mulsanne Blue," Kristoff said. Local Car Collector Started Young

Car collecting is all about preserving history, both that of the cars and the collector. A local collector started amassing classic cars at a very early age and knows the history behind each one.

Dan Hanlon, founder of Allen Keith Construction in North Canton, is by all definitions an avid car collector. He started collecting when he was 14 years old and has been accumulating cars ever since. In total, Hanlon has 35 cars, the oldest being a 1920 Stutz and the youngest a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo. While each of the cars has its own story of ownership, restoration and its own place in the history of automobiles, Hanlon has his own personal history behind his collections. “My father had Model T's and Model A cars,” Hanlon said. “My first car was a Model T. Now my focus is on collecting classic Packard’s,” he said. Hanlon is also the director of the Southern Florida Region of the Classic Car Club of America. He attends several Grand …
