Police: North Canton Man Loses Control of SUV, Dies

Marvin Hackworth II was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon at a local hospital.

Marvin Hackworth II, 26, of North Canton, suffered fatal injuries in a single-car crash Wednesday in Plain Township, The Canton Repository reports.  Hackworth was driving east on U.S. Route 62 near the Rowland Avenue NE intersection when he reportedly lost control of a GMC Yukon SUV and veered off the highway. “I believe he lost control and struck a utility pole,” Sgt. James Tedrick told The Canton Repository. “He was extricated outside (the vehicle). I would describe it as major damage to the vehicle.” For more to the story, visit www.cantonrep.com.

Witnesses Turn in Suspected Drunken Driver Who Plowed Over Light Pole

North Canton police arrested a man who knocked over a light pole at Main and Charlotte streets and kept right on driving

North Canton police say a 47-year-old Hillsboro man was driving drunk through the city and plowed over a light pole at North Main and Charlotte streets Saturday. The man was making a left turn from Charlotte Street onto North Main Street when his 1998 Chevrolet Blazer went over the sidewalk and struck the light pole about 8:30 p.m. He kept on driving. Police said witnesses who were waiting at the traffic light saw the man's vehicle at the Harleigh Inn as they passed. They called police, who soon arrested the man at the hotel and booked him into the Stark County Jail. He is charged with driving under the influence and hit-skip, both first-degree misdemeanors, along with failure to control, a minor misdemeanor.  The light pole did not fall …

Grand Jury to Review Charges Against Teen Driver in Sept. 17 Crash

The case involving a Hoover High teen who injured himself and four friends in a car wreck is now in the hands of Stark County prosecutors.  Ohio Highway Patrol officials had issued a warrant for the arrest of Kyle D. Byelene, 18, of Canton, who was driving the car that crashed Sept. 17 near Pittsburg Avenue and Applegrove Street. Byelene turned himself in at Canton Municipal Court after the warrant was issued, patrol officials said. He faces two charges of aggravated vehicular assault, both third-degree felonies. The case now awaits a review before a grand jury. Patrol officials say Byelene was driving north on Pittsburg Avenue just south of Applegrove Street in a 2002 Acura TL in the early morning on Sept 17. Byelene tried to pass a car …

Hoover High Responds to Crash That Injured 5 Students

School officials were prepared Monday to respond to any questions from students and help those who needed to talk about the weekend crash

Hoover High School students got the chance to speak with the school’s crisis team when they arrived to school Monday. Superintendent Michael Gallina said the group of administrators and counselors were on hand to talk to students about the weekend crash that injured five Hoover High students. Three students suffered serious injuries. “They met (Sunday) afternoon and organized a crisis response for the opening of school today,” Gallina said Monday. “The counselors were prepared for any students who would have come in right away wanting to seek out a listening ear or a comforting place, and then the counselors and administrators were ready to give factual information to those who were simply needing that level.” The Ohio Highway Patrol …

5 Hoover High Students Injured in Crash

Five students were injured — three seriously — in a Saturday morning crash at Pittsburg Avenue and Applegrove Street

The Canton Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that injured five Hoover High School students early Saturday morning. Patrol officials said the students were traveling north on Pittsburg Avenue just south of Applegrove Street in a 2002 Acura TL. The driver tried to pass a car on the right on the two-lane road, taking the car off the right side of the roadway before hitting a mailbox and utility pole. Medics responded just after midnight and took driver Kyle D. Byelene, 18, of Canton, to Aultman Hospital with serious injuries. Byelene was wearing his seatbelt. North Canton Police Investigate Crash That Sent 3 to Hospital

Police said today no one has been cited yet in a Monday night crash that occurred at Orion and North Main streets.

North Canton police have not cited anyone yet in a crash that sent three people to the hospital about 10 p.m. Monday. Kayla Newberger, 18, of Uniontown, was driving a 2009 Buick Enclave and was turning left from North Main Street onto Orion Street. Jessica Dills, 21, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 1998 Lincoln southbound on North Main Street, passing through the intersection at Main and Orion. Lt. Scott Denniss said it looks like Newberger turned in front of Dills' vehicle, although no one has been cited. He said an ambulance took Dills to Mercy Medical Center along with her passenger Courtney Stover, no age or hometown available.
