'South Pacific' Brings Classic Love Story to North Canton Playhouse

The North Canton Playhouse is set to debut the classic love story story filled with prejudice and war

The North Canton Playhouse is set to debut "South Pacific," a classic love story story filled with prejudice and war. "The background of the show stems from an age-old problem that we still have today, with inter-racial relationships, and about what life was like back then, and why it was a big hoopla," director Brenton Cochran said. He anticipates the audience will love the classic musical numbers, the love story, and the passion shown through each of the characters. WATCH: 'Gypsy' Hits North Canton Playhouse Stage

The production debuts Friday and runs through Jan. 29

Get ready to watch one aggressive stage mama push her little girls to the limit in the North Canton Playhouse's rendition of Gypsy, which is directed by Brenton Cochran and debuts Friday. We caught up with the Hoover High senior Megan Ostrofsky (starring as Mama Rose) and production manager Andrea Hartman at their dress rehearsal this week and talked to them about the upcoming show. Show times are Jan. 13-29, 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays (no 2:30 p.m. show on Jan. 28). Student Actors Help Peers See Devastating Effects of Bullying (With Video)

We tagged along as four student actors from the North Canton Playhouse's Spotlight on Youth program travelled to Massillon Middle School to perform a play about bullying

Four teens arrive at the North Canton Playhouse Youth Theatre and filter into a minivan bound for Massillon Middle School. All four, at some point in their lives, have felt the sting of bullying — a problem many schools, from grade school through high school, are struggling to curb. The student actors — Misty Weick, Allison Zarnes, Nathaniel Brumbaugh and Sarah Jane Toy — remember the hurt as they perform the social issues drama I Have a Secret throughout schools in Northeast Ohio. The play, written by local playwright Brenton Cochran, is designed to provoke meaningful discussion among students, teachers, administrators and parents. 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' Comes to North Canton Playhouse

Walsh University Genesius Players Drama Troupe presents "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" in the coming weekends at the North Canton Playhouse

Head to the North Canton Playhouse this weekend or next to catch a glimpse of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a Broadway-style play adapted from the late '80s movie staring Steve Martin and Micheal Caine. The play tells the story of two crooks who meet while trying to fleece women out of their money. They come to the conclusion that there is only room for one of them in the small French town and decide on a contest to determine who gets to stay. Mary McManaway directs this play at the North Canton Playhouse with musical direction by Dr. Britt Cooper. Scoundrels features members of the Genesius Players Drama Troupe at Walsh University.
