Rotary President: New Amphitheater Will Happen, Just Not Quite Yet

Construction of an amphitheater at Bitzer Park was slated to start this year, but it might not happen for some time, Rotary President Brent Fatzinger said

Construction of North Canton's amphitheater is still a go, but the timeline for completion has been set back. North Canton Rotary Club members had anticipated construction at Bitzer Park in spring of this year, but things are moving a little more slowly than they originally expected. "It'll probably be later on down the road," said Brent Fatzinger, president of the North Canton Rotary Club. "I would say in the next two years we'd like to try to do something." Fatzinger said the group is about halfway to its goal of $75,000. One way the Rotary Club is raising money is the annual Rotary Chili Open, which requires people to brave the cold conditions for a day of golfing at the Fairways Golf Course. This year's event takes place from 9 a.m.-3 …

WATCH: North Canton, Jackson Rotary Clubs Face Off at 'Rivalry' Meeting

The two local rotary clubs had a little fun Tuesday afternoon as they teamed up for a joint meeting in anticipation of this week's big rivalry — the Hoover High versus Jackson High School game

North Canton and Jackson Township rotary clubs geared up for this week's big rivalry — the Hoover High versus Jackson High School game — by hosting a pep rally at La Pizzaria in Jackson Township Tuesday. The rally — which also served as the clubs' joint meeting this week — stands as a yearly tradition to get the rotarians, students and community excited about the longstanding rivalry match. "The game on Friday night will be the 82nd battle between North Canton Hoover and Jackson," said Brent Fatzinger, president of the North Canton Rotary Club, adding the tradition of playing Jackson as the 10th game in the season was established in 1961. "Throughout the years there have been lop-sided games, low-scoring wins and everything in between," he…

Brent Fatzinger: Names in the News

Fatzinger leads the North Canton Rotary Club as president this year after being a member for more than 10 years

His name may sound a little familiar to our Patch readers. Brent Fatzinger — he recently stepped into the role of president of the North Canton Rotary Club and has chaired the committee that puts on the annual Chili Open Golf Classic at the Fairways at Arrowhead. He's also talked to North Canton Patch before about the Rotary's Bitzer Park amphitheater project. Now's your chance to learn a little more about Fatzinger in this new North Canton Patch feature, "Names in the News."  North Canton Patch: What motivated you to get involved in the Rotary Club? Fatzinger: Ironically what got me involved with Rotary was simply someone asking me to join. I knew of Rotary from my experience in high school with exchange students. My sister was also an …

Construction for Bitzer Park Amphitheater to Start in Spring 2013

We checked in with the North Canton Rotary Club this week to see what the status of the Bitzer Park amphitheater is

If all goes as planned, we may be seeing an amphitheater in Bitzer Park during the Main Street Festival in 2013. Construction is likely to start next spring, said Brent Fatzinger, incoming North Canton Rotary Club president. The Rotary Club spearheaded the project, which is just one of the many city-wide improvements in the newly unveiled Master Plan. The group had originally wanted the project to be completed in time for this year's Main Street Festival. But, after hitting some bumps in the road with construction plans, they decided next year is a much more likely bet. "The last thing we want to have happen is we rush into something like this and miss something or overlook something that would have been a benefit," Fatzinger said. The …

Hopefully someone will be able to contact whoever the owner is of the adjacent parking lot so that it can be used for activities at Bitzer Park. We have a great monument there. Do you know how HARD it is to take an elderly person there to let them look at the plaques of their loved ones. You can't stop on Main or East Maple to let them out of your car. You must park at the Y and have them walk to…   more ›

WATCH: Golfers Brave the Elements at the Chili Open Golf Classic

The Rotary Club of North Canton hosted the golf event and Viking Challenge Run at the Fairways of North Canton Saturday

Golfers had plenty of snow to make for a challenging game Saturday at the Chili Open Golf Classic, hosted by the North Canton Rotary Club. It's the biggest fundraiser each year for the Rotary Club, and this year the money goes toward building an amphitheater at Bitzer Park. "(It's) part of the Master Plan, which just came out for the city of North Canton," event chairman Brent Fatzinger said. "That's a big exciting project and we're hoping to get the city's support on that and move forward on that puting that in."

Chili Open Golf Classic to Raise Money For Bitzer Park Amphitheater

The Rotary Chili Open beckons golfers to the Fairways Golf Course this Saturday for a day of snowy sportsmanship

Last week we heard that a civic group already was interested in undertaking the amphitheater at North Canton's Bitzer Park — just one of the many city-wide improvements in the newly unveiled Master Plan. Bill Strohmenger, chairman of the Master Plan steering committee, hadn't revealed which organization it was when he detailed the plan at Walsh University last Wednesday. But we found'em. The Rotary Club of North Canton will use the money it raises from this weekend's Rotary Chili Open to help create an outdoor amphitheater for city residents to enjoy during the summer months, and especially during the popular Main Street Festival in August. "It's something we had act talked about before anybody in our club even knew what was going to be in…
