Cece and Heather Ramsey are two Hoover High School graduates doing good outside North Canton; they've teamed up to organize a Relay for Life event at Lipsomb University in Nashville.
If you ask Cece and Heather Ramsey what it's like to organize an event together, you might hear pretty similar stories from the sisters: each couldn't do it without the other. The siblings — both Hoover High School graduates — have teamed up to organize a Relay for Life event at Lipscomb University in Nashville, where they both attend school. "I've been around her for 18 years of my life, so I know her ins and outs, and we work well together," said Heather, a 2012 Hoover grad and freshman majoring in nutrition. For the fourth year now, North Canton resident Brian Bortz will embark on a four-day, 330-mile bike ride from Cleveland to Cincinnati. During the ride, which raises money for the American Cancer Society, Bortz carries with him a "motivation list" — a list of cancer survivors and people whose lives have been touched by cancer. They're all friends and loved ones of those who've donated to Bortz's cause. The name most dear to Bortz, though, is his mother's — Susan Bortz of Monroesville, PA. "My biggest motivation is my mom because she’s an eight-year survivor now of breast cancer. So that’s the biggest reason that I do this," Bortz said. A passion for cycling also keeps Bortz involved in the American Cancer Society Pan Ohio Hope Ride year …

Thanks Morgan. Let's hope he gets to Wooster before the rain does. I looked at your profile, and I agree that the Patch is an interesting approach to journalism, especially is small towns and cities. The only problem I have with that is the loss of freelance money for my book reviews (popular science). I'm down to one regular client, and as a writer, I can't work for free. My reviews are archived…   more ›
