Whiz Kid: Avery Livezey Supports Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

Avery Livezey volunteered her time June 4 to help in the fight against childhood cancer for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. With a big smile and an energetic attitude, Avery impressed the customers at Mary Beth's Plants in North Canton.

This week's Whiz Kid nomination comes to us from Francine Livezey, grandmother of Avery Livezey. "I received many, many comments on how well she did," Francine said. "The workers at Mary Beth's Plants, as well as numerous customers, were shocked at how well she told about why we were there and what she was doing.  She said it as plain and clear as ever. "Her statement was 'We are here today to help children with cancer, to find a cure for these children and help them and their families. Would you like some lemonade and chips?'  When asked how much it is she would say, 'It does not cost anything for the lemonade or chips or other goodies, but we hope you will donate to the children so they will have hope too.' Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Makes a Difference in Northeast Ohio

Never underestimate the power of an idea. Alexander Scott wanted to help other kids win the fight against cancer. Her dream came to life in her backyard with a simple lemonade recipe.

Young kids often host their own lemonade stands to make money. It’s their first taste of the business world. But for Alexandra Scott, known as Alex, a lemonade stand was her way to give back and help others. At the age of 4, Alex, a pediatric cancer patient, announced that she wanted to start a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. She had just received a stem cell transplant and she wanted to give the money to the doctors, so they could help other kids like they helped her. And she did just that. Every summer she held a lemonade stand in her backyard. People heard about what she was doing and wanted to help. Alex’s Lemonade Stands began to pop up all over, and more than $1 million was raised in …
