Most of the canceled flights in Cleveland are scheduled Sunday through Tuesday, and airlines are still looking at weather forecasts to decide how to prepare for Wednesday
Flights around the country have been canceled or delayed as Hurricane Sandy continues its wrath up the east coast. Jackie Mayo, spokesperson for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, said on Monday that roughly 45 percent of flights coming through the airport Sunday through Tuesday have been canceled. "I think the airlines will have a closer look probably today or tomorrow to decide about Wednesday, depending on what the storm does," Mayo said. United Airlines alone canceled about 40 percent of its flights at the airport, she said. But some flights are still being diverted to Cleveland. Airport and airline officials gathered Monday to celebrate the arrival of the airline to CAK
Akron-Canton Airport President and CEO Rick McQueen considers the arrival of Southwest Airlines "the most important air service development success in the history of our airport." State and U.S. legislators, as well as airport and Southwest employees, media and customers, gathered Monday at a news conference to celebrate that success. With the addition of Southwest, customers now will be able to take two daily round-trip flights to Chicago Midway and one daily round-trip flight to Denver. The airport also threw a celebration over the weekend for its "super fans," who got to watch and participate in a pie-eating contest and watch the first Southwest flight land at CAK.
