Local AMA Chapter to Host Winter Wonderland Silent Auction Tuesday

The silent auction, held at the 356th Fighter Group Restaurant, will feature donated items and gift cards from local businesses and will benefit Akron Children's Hospital

The folks at the Akron/Canton chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) are making it ridiculously easy to give back and get something in return this holiday season. The group will host the Winter Wonderland Silent Auction at the 356th Fighter Group Restaurant at 6 p.m. Tuesday. You'll be able to bid on a few gifts for yourself, friends and loved ones, and your contributions help the kids at Akron Children's Hospital. Whiz Kids: Greentown Third-Graders Make a Difference with Sweet Treats

Five students at Greentown Elementary show off their creative culinary skills for a good cause

This week’s Whiz Kids come to us from Debbie Farrah, a third-grade teacher at Greentown Elementary. All the boys are third-graders at Greentown Elementary School. Every year WKDD radio station does the Have a Heart, Do Your Part radiothon. Hoover High School student Lucas Rife sent a note requesting help to raise money. Ethan, Jamison and Jacob decided to help out and came up with the idea to make and sell a sweet treat — a chocolate- covered snack mix. With the help of their parents, they made and bagged the sweet treats. For one week in February, the boys sold it before school and collected $289.56, which they donated to the WKDD radiothon for Akron’s Children Hospital. North Canton Has a Heart: Letter to the Editor

Hoover High School senior Lucas Rife thanks the North Canton community for its help in raising money for Akron Children's Hospital

Lucas Rife, a past Whiz Kid, wrote a letter to the editor to thank those who donated toward his annual fundraising campaign for Akron Children's Hospital. Dear North Canton residents: A few weeks ago I asked all the students and families in the North Canton City School District to help me raise money for the "Have a Heart do Your Part" radiothon from WKDD. All of the money collected goes to Akron Children's Hospital. I have been a "Change Bandit" for 10 years. This year I set my goal at $10,000. I talked with the principals of all the schools and they were all willing to have fundraisers at their schools. Each of the schools did their own fundraising campaign. The totals are quite amazing! Whiz Kid: Hoover High Senior and Cancer Survivor Raises Money for Hospital

Lucas Rife is raising money for Akron Children’s Hospital by collecting change from community members

This week’s North Canton Patch Whiz Kid nomination comes from Susan Rife, mother of Lucas Rife. Lucas asks those who wish to donate make a check out to Akron Children’s Hospital and send it to the Mary L. Evans Early Childhood Center, ℅ Susan Rife, 301 Portage St. NW, North Canton OH 44720, so they will be counted toward his goal. The cutoff date to get checks in is this Friday, Feb. 11.
