Community Bands Together to Support Boy With Rare Cancer: Pic of the Day

The North Canton Jaycees and JAX young professionals hosted a guest bartending event at the Barrel Room to benefit Tucker Gromosiak, a 7-year-old Hudson boy with a rare form of muscular cancer

North Canton Jaycees and JAX young professionals raised at least $4,000 Tuesday night to help a 7-year-old Hudson boy with a rare form of cancer. The two groups joined up to host a guest bartending night at the Barrel Room and support Tucker Gromosiak, who is battling Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Prostate (Rhabdo for short). The $4,000 does not include tips from that night, which all went to the cause. Couldn't make it to the event but still want to help out? Visit any First Merit Bank to donate to the Tucker Gromosiak Benevolent Fund.

PHOTOS: 'Wine Not Support the Arts?' Draws Dozens to the Barrel Room

Nearly 100 people stopped out to the Barrel Room Monday night to support local artists and help raise money for the non-profit organization, New Work City Foundation

Don't think you missed your chance to catch all the wine-inspired artwork in the Barrel Room. Although "Wine Not Support the Arts?" kicked off with an opening celebration Monday night, wine lovers can still check out all the works from local artists through March 3 and vote for their favorite artist through Feb. 25. Monday's "Wine Not Support the Arts?" event drew about 95 people to the Barrel Room Wine & Beer Bar. The event was hosted by New Work City Foundation, which distributes grants to businesses and organizations in Stark County for the purpose of creating jobs. "Everybody's getting some wine and just relaxing," Barrel Room owner Adam Todd said during the end of the event. "It's been a great success." North Canton resident Sue Hicks…

What an excellent way to build arts appreciation for the North Canton community- and also contribute to creating and supporting jobs in Stark County. The number of attendees at this event clearly demonstrates the community's respect and passion for the arts, as well as their desire to get people working! And linking all of this with wine... what a wonderful idea. Congrats NWCF!   more ›
