Don't need a study to figure that criminals need weapons to protect themselves from other criminalsRead More more than those without a record. To a criminal a gun is a tool of the trade. To a non criminal it is only a tool to protect oneself from criminals. Yes, we need some sort of gun control. One variable we cannot predict is who is mentally stable at the time they purchase a gun? Same with those who acquire driving licenses. See, you could have saved yourself a lot of money.

Well Ron, you did hit a key word - predict. It is not legal to use predictions against a person toRead More predetermine their fate. Each member of our society has a "free will." That's another key term you will find in the US Constitution. Additionally, much of the research funding was cancelled because the insurance agencies were poised to utilize the "predictions" to create a scale of risk to be used in determining premiums. (Not that they don't now try to factor such information into your premiums.) --- There exists a 'form of gun control' in practice, at the state and federal levels. And mental stability is one of the judgement areas in the process to purchase a firearm.

Too bad the shutdown had to happen, but in hindsight, republicans were doing the right thing byRead More trying to kill the monster that is Obamacare.

It was the President who shut down the government and informed the agencies to make it as painful asRead More possible. This was a quote from one of the park rangers who set up barricades outside the WWII memorial. Plus, Why did I have to Pay the Federal Employees for NOT Working ?

Doug, thank you. Understand that AOL owns the Patch & the Huffington Post. This explains why weRead More no longer receive local reports. The homosexual marriage item is typical of outlets like the Huffington Post, who, cater to the coast & large cities with their progressive agenda & disregard the "fly-over" states. Now, will unsubscribe.

When politicians remember it is "for, of & by the people" and not for their eliteRead More political class status and when voters remember to vote with intelligence and knowledge rather than "what's in it for me" and emotion------we will straighten course. May be too late by then but we receive what we reap.

Lenin, "Socialized medicine is the keystone to the arch of the socialist state.” HealthRead More Care didn't need reform. Health Insurance did, by way of tort reform & interstate competition, to start. IT WAS NEVER ABOUT HEALTH CARE but about CONTROL over the people. @Jillian Jackson: I've learned long ago not to trust "news" sources. I always check & double check everything w/ foreign sources---they have no skin in the game versus most US media.

Poorly written. A very negative tone and conclusions contradict the title. Is this "fair andRead More balanced"? I liked the Patch when it was neighborhood news. Now it has a definite agenda. Very disappointing!

Agree with Sharon Harper. Miss the neighborhood news, too. Have noticed the comments haveRead More dwindled---a dwindling in readership? The page has glitches and no longer works as smoothly, as in the beginning.
