This Weekend: Support Our Softball Champs, Awareness Walks & More

We've left out the beers, the dancing and the live music for something a little different this week — philanthropy

Where/When: Price Park, 1000 W. Maple St., North Canton; 9 a.m. Saturday registration with the walk starting at 10 a.m.
Why Go: Help bring some awareness to Down syndrome and meet , the event organizers who are walking for their daughters who have Down syndrome.
Pricing: Free, but you can donate there or on the walk's website here

Where/When: Westbrook Veterans’ Memorial Park on 13th Street NW, Canton; 6 p.m. Sunday
Why Go: Organizers want to see more people involved in the walk this year after changing the time from early morning to evening. Plus, you'll be bringing awareness to suicide, which claims dozens of lives in Stark County each year.

Why Go: This is the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Join others in your community for a day to honor those who have died.
Pricing: Free

Where/When: The Kmart parking lot, 1447 N. Main St., North Canton; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: Come out Saturday to support and help them raise some money. Besides, isn't your car a little dirty?

5. RAISE THE WOOF!

Where/When: VFW Post 3747, 1935 Avalon Road NE, Canton; 6 p.m. Friday; open bar is from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. 
Why Go: In the mood for dinner and a reverse raffle hosted by Friends of Stark Pound? All proceeds go toward the Stark County Pound's much-needed ventilation system. The goal is to improve the air quality for the dogs, which should reduce airborne illness.
Pricing: $50 for dinner-and-raffle tickets and $20 for dinner-only tickets
