My Monthly Album Suggestion: Mavis Staples

Looking to try some new music? How about Mavis Staples' "You Are Not Alone."

Well, I have decided that once a month I am going to attempt to suggest an album to buy or listen to. This was an easy decision to make because it’s my blog, and I can do pretty much anything Morgan Day will approve!

My suggestion for this month is to try out Mavis Staples’ "You Are Not Alone."  In this album Mavis works with Jeff Tweedy from the band Wilco and sings songs by John Fogerty, Allen Toussaint and Randy Newman and also performs music written by her late father.

The songs "Creep Along Moses" and "You Are Not Alone" are both wonderfully done and have become staples in my musical rotation. (See what I did there?)  So if you find yourself liking musicians like Al Green or Aretha Franklin, this music is going to be a familiar sound, but if you have never tried out some great gospel music, you could do a lot worse than Mavis Staples!
