City's Biggest Summer Road Project Begins Monday

The North Main Street Reconstruction, Phase 6, means construction on North Main all the way from Applegrove Street to Orion Street

Traffic may be a little tight on the north end of town starting Monday.

The city is slated to begin the North Main Street Reconstruction, Phase 6, which means there will be construction on North Main all the way from Applegrove Street to Orion Street.

The construction will slow traffic down quite a bit as the road goes down to one-lane traffic in each direction.

How long will that last? About five months, the city estimates.

City Engineer Jim Benekos reminded us when we that "it's a temporary inconvenience for a permanent improvement."

When construction is complete, North Main Street will have a center turn lane for people looking to get into places like and a little easier. Construction crews will have also worked on reconstructing the curbs and sidewalks and handled the storm sewer rehabilitation.

And, according to the city's website, construction also will include brick accents on the sidewalk and ornamental street lights.

The project costs $3.8 million, with 80 percent covered by a federal grant and 20 percent by a state grant.

The city asks anyone with questions to call the North Canton Engineering Department at 330-499-3465.
