Tour de Vaughn Brings in Nearly $13,000

North Canton YMCA officials tallied the numbers and reported a great turnout for the annual cycling fundraiser, which happened April 10

The   brought in 173 riders and $12,650 this year.

The annual event raises money for the YMCA’s Living Strong, Living Well classes, a free 12-week program for those who have or have had cancer. Money also goes to Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong foundation.

It honors Vaughn Prude, a North Canton YMCA cycling instructor who died of prostate cancer in 2005.

The Living Strong, Living Well program has 22 participants, but YMCA officials hope to expand that to 60 to 100 people. Julie James, the Y's director of personal training, and Anne Covert, North Canton YMCA health and fitness director, talk about the Tour de Vaughn and plans for the Living Strong, Living Well program in .

Y members and non-members participated in the Tour de Vaughn April 10 by riding stationary bicycles inside the YMCA’s gymnasium for half-hour increments. Participants paid $25 to ride for each half hour.
