Tim Vick Resigns as Hoover High Girls Basketball Coach

Vick, in the position for just two seasons, resigned after an evaluation meeting with Hoover High Athletic Director Don Shimek today

Tim Vick, who had been coaching the girls basketball team for two seasons, resigned from his position today.

The resignation came after a meeting between Vick and Athletic Director Don Shimek.

Vick made a racially insensitive joke at the team’s banquet, where Superintendent Michael Gallina was in attendance on April 22, according to the Canton Repository.

“That was not appropriate,” Gallina told the Rep today. “When you combine that with some other pieces Don was reviewing, it was a stressful situation.”

After a successful three-year run at Navarre's Fairless High School, including a regional tournament appearance by the Falcons in 2005, Vick left girls basketball to coach boys hoops, acting as assistant coach at Fairless, Waynedale and Canton South high schools.

He began coaching at Hoover High in late 2010. 

"I was always looking for the right circumstance to coach girls basketball again," .  "Hoover is a special coaching job with a rich tradition, and I enjoy how coachable girls are."
