Student Shoutout: Madison Shaw Featured in Inside Cheerleading Magazine

The Orchard Hill Elementary student had a half page dedicated to just her

fourth-grader Madison Shaw was the top dog in Inside Cheerleading Magazine last month.

The bubbly 9-year-old was chosen as the Featured Junior Cheerleader for October and had a half page dedicated to her. Well, if you take a look at the magazine, you’ll see she shared it with a few of her siblings, who also cheer.

Daughter of David and Angela Shaw of North Canton, Madison was chosen from kids from around the country for the honor. Angela Shaw said she sent in information to the magazine hoping Madison would have her picture featured on a page that includes 24 athletes — the All Star All-American Team. But she got an email back asking if the magazine could feature Madison more prominently.

“I think it was all her tumbling and flying she does,” Angela said, guessing as to what put Madison ahead of the pack. (Flying is when they lift the girls up in the air.)

She comes from a family full of spirit (three of her sisters are American Elite All-Stars), and she competes in two all-star teams, American Elite Dream Youth Level 5 and Bravo Junior Level 4, as well as cheering for . She also participates in gymnastics at , plays softball and volleyball and earns nearly straights A’s in school.

Madison, who’s cheered since she was about 4 years old, said she enjoys the recognition that comes with being in a national magazine.

“It feels exciting,” she said. “And cool!”

Her parents are pretty proud of her, too.

“I think it’s awesome,” Angela said. “Her coach said it’s very hard to get chosen for this. I think she deserves it — for everything she does and how hard she works.”

Madison is one of nine children, including Tiffany, 19; Kelsey, 18; Jake, 13; Ashley, 8; Mason, 8; Brayden, 4; Jackson, 3; and Brooklyn, 7 months.
