Hoover Falls to Aurora in Regional Baseball Semifinal

The Greenmen (27-4) came from two runs down to beat the Vikings (22-8).

Aurora and Hoover fought to the bitter end at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium, but it was the Greenmen who came away with the 7-5 win in Thursday's Division I regional semifinal.

Aurora struck first, scoring a run early on, but Hoover surged and led 3-1 by the middle of the third inning, said Vikings head coach Jeff Hite.

Aurora answered back in the bottom of the third, tied up the game and kept the Vikings on their heels.

Hoover smacked eight hits compared with 13 from the Greenmen with each team committing one error, said Hite.

Despite the loss, Hite didn't view it as a scourge on what was one of the team's most successful seasons in 15 years.

"I told the kids not to let one loss put a damper on a season that will be memorable for all of us," he said.

Indeed, the Vikings (22-8) came away with the Federal League and district championships this season.

Aurora (27-4) will play in Friday's regional final and will face off against either Brunswick or Mentor.
