The Junior Achievement Competition consists of the students setting up and running  booths for a trade show. There are judges and secret shoppers who walk around from booth to booth, asking questions about the products. After the trade show, there is a stage presentation and the final segment is a Q&A session with the judges. The students were selected by the judges and secret shoppers.

There were also three individual awards presented and two of them went to Hoover students.

Nidy had no idea they were even handing out individual awards, so it was a surprise for everyone, she said.

(Find the winners next to the bullet points below.)

  • Mercedes Dunne, a senior at Hoover High School, won the award for Outstanding Sales Person.

"This is the "sell ice to an eskimo" award that goes to the most charismatic, sales-oriented, extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual at the competition," Nidy said.

  • Mike Teter, a senior at Hoover High School, won the award for Employee of the Year.

"This award goes to a well-rounded professional with exceptional leadership skills and stands out in a crowd," Nidy said.

Teter's team also just won the National Titan Business Challenge Competition. Mike, along with teammates Matt Donchess and Robert Williams, won first place out of 48 total teams throughout the United States.

"I cannot tell you what a pleasure it has been this year to teach such an outstanding group of seniors. They have worked very hard for their successes and I would like to think that their time spent in the business management curriculum at Hoover High School will help them both in college, as well as in their future careers," Nidy said.

"What a great group of students. Please congratulate them when you see them.  They worked very hard."
