Charles Prunty III is the man behind the Nov. 5 marketing event at the Auricle in downtown Canton. It aims to connect young people from Canton-Akron area.

Charles Prunty III has heard it before: There’s just not a whole lot for young people to do in the area.

The Cleveland native and finance major at knew there was something he could do to bring some fun to young locals and so he started putting together a black-tie networking event at the new downtown Canton music venue, The Auricle.

The Nov. 5 event aims to connect students from Walsh, Malone University, , Mount Union, the University of Akron and other nearby schools. It takes place from 10 p.m.-2 a.m.

“It’s a way for students from all over to network and have fun, and it’s a chance for the business to connect with this demographic,” Prunty told North Canton Patch from inside the recently.

Women pay no cover before 11 p.m., while men pay $10 to get in all night. The first 20 women through the door get a swag bag, too.

Prunty’s been hard at work publicizing the event through online news sites, newspapers and he even had plans to broadcast from ’s student-run radio station Black Squirrel Radio. He also plans to circulate about 5,000 fliers throughout Kent, Akron and Canton.

Although Prunty still is a student, he’s getting a jump on his career by launching his own lifestyle marketing company, King Midas Media Group. He plans to do more events through KMMG, like the black-tie gathering, upon graduating.

“This is what I want to do for the rest of my life,” Prunty said. “I feel like it’s my calling, and this is something that will always be in demand.”

So what’s next for Prunty? He plans to throw a giant super bowl party at The Auricle — complete with the lingerie football players from the Cleveland Crush team — before graduating in December. He says he'll go back to school to get his master’s in health care management.
