'School Supply Cupboard' to Help Families Affected By Flooding

One Orchard Hill teacher wants to help those families affected by the recent flooding by opening a 'school supply cupboard' and offering free school supplies to families in need

will be open between Wednesday and Aug. 17 for people to drop off school supplies that will go to families affected by recent flooding.

Second-grade teacher Sue Oryszak organized the “school supply cupboard” after hearing about , which affected many families with children attending Orchard Hill. She hopes that by offering the free supplies, it might take a little financial burden off the families.

“I was just thinking, because they have so many deals where you buy something and get something for a penny, maybe people can just pick up some extra school supplies and put them in a drop-off box and help those families out,” Oryszak said.

Drop off general school supplies (pencils, pens, paper, crayons and scissors, for example) to the school between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday though Aug. 17.

Then keep checking back with North Canton Patch to see when families may come pick up those supplies. Oryszak said the dates most likely will be between Aug. 17 and 19, and families won’t need any sort of proof they were affected by the flood. She just hopes families are honest and come to the school to take what they need.

The supply cupboard is open to any family affected by the flooding, whether students are in elementary, middle or high school.
