PHOTOS: Stark State Hoists New Pedestrian Bridge Into Place

hoisted its new $1.1 million, 80-ton pedestrian bridge into place Monday afternoon.

The bridge connects the 660-space student parking lot at the corner of Mega Street and Frank Avenue to the second floor of the North Academic Building.

The tower leading to climate-controlled bridge contains a stairwell, elevator and mechanical room.

The bridge, which is 3,500 square feet and 160 feet long, is scheduled for completion by November.

Stark State officials say with additional commercialization and increased traffic on both Mega Street and Frank Avenue, this move will create a convenient connection point from the parking lot to Stark State’s buildings, providing an alternative to crossing at the traffic signal.

More than 2,000 student crossings take place daily at the intersection of Mega Street and Frank Avenue.

North Canton Patch viewer Dave Snyder and Michael Ihrig, communications and web specialist at Stark State College, provided us with photos for this update.
