PHOTOS: Hoover High Vikings Fall to Lake Blue Streaks

The Vikings football team suffered a disappointing 42-14 loss to the Lake Blue Streaks, who had yet to win a game this season. Check out the gallery to see the action

The Vikings football team visited the Lake Blue Streaks this week and came away with a tough 42-14 loss. Lake controlled the game with several key turnovers and a strong running game to earn their first win of the season.

Lake opened the scoring late in the first quarter with a rushing touchdown by No. 31 Jarrod Daugherty. Blue Streak defensive back Micheal Schafer intercepted the ball with three seconds to go to end the first quarter.

Lake scored with another Daugherty (31) rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter. This was followed by another Schafer interception. The Blue Streaks then found the end zone with 29 seconds left in the half with a pass from quarterback Josh Peach to Ethan Dutton to bring the score to 21-0 in favor of Lake.

Lake had two big turnovers early in the second half with yet another Schafer interception and a fumble that was also recovered by Schafer. The Blue Streaks pulled away with successive rushing touchdowns by Daugherty in the third quarter to bring the score to 35-0.

The Blue Streaks scored their final touchdown of the evening midway through the fourth quarter when Zach Gazdacko (29) punched into the end zone. The Hoover Vikings returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to put some points on the board. Hoover later cleaned up a broken play with 2:08 left in the fourth with a rushing touchdown to bring the final score to 42-14 in favor of Lake.

Hoover's record now stands at 2-3 and Lake is 1-4. The Vikings visit Boardman next week.
